Hello you wonderful people that know EVERYTHING about bikes.
I got a quick question regarding Spark plugs. Is it worth changing mine for an iridium one? I mean is there any real benefit from having the iridium one to having a normal one??
Much love.
Oss.

Snake Oil IMO but others claim to have noticed a difference. If they were that good they would be fitted as standard to everything. Wink

The only bit of NGK spiel i believed was they last longer. Not noticed any differences except lighter in the pocket.

They are supposed to last longer , and the newer BMWs actually have them as OEM equipment so says BMW man with his 2 big BMWs. I have one in my XT because the previous owner put it there, but for me to try an iridium plug is cheaper than an IL4 pilot or those with 2 sparks per cylinder.

Advantages of Iridium spark plugs

Due to the properties of Iridium, the spark plugs centre electrode can be made with a much smaller diameter than with platinum, Gold or gold palladium and copper/nickel types without sacrificing service life. The spark plugs potential difference is more concentrated at the tiny Iridium tip and hence less 'spark jump' voltage is required - this can be as much as 5,000 volts less than with standard plug types. Ignition is improved and less strain is placed on the ignition system. Benefits of improved ignition/combustion include better fuel economy, increased power/acceleration and especially better throttle response.

not sure if all the above is noticable but do think mine started a bit easier with them but not sure with some things is it all in your head cos you read it

my blade has them as standard, not looking forward to having to change them. I fitted one to my nsr a while back and the only difference it made was it was a little easier to start.
