Website design and hosting?

Hey folks my parents want to have a website designed and hosted for them.

They want it to be idiot proof and does not need to be flashy.

Do BT do this service?

They need to be able to update it themselves so again as easy as possible.

Any ideas?

Hi

Loads of people do web site design, and who to use will come down to budget, how pretty you want it to be vs how complex it is in the background, etc.

There are loads of hosting companies around. We use https://www.pobox.co.uk and have no complaints about them but I have no doubt others have their own recommended hosting companies. You might have some free web space with you ISP (although probably best to avoid using that for anything long term).

You should consider DotNetNuke - check out www.dnn-portals.co.uk Those guys specialise in DNN hosting, so they'll handle all the config and make sure you are sorted.

DNN is a content management system, so once you have a site live you can simply login and create your site. It's a bit more advanced than the basic 'site builder' type software out there, but offers tons more features.

I use their basic Designer hosting package, which costs me £4.99 per month on a PayPal subscription. I've never had any problems with them.

What do they want this site for exactly?

It wouldn't surprise me if they would be ok with wordpress or some other similar blogging platform. Strait forward to use and easily customizable. So then all you'd need is php mysql hosting and you're set.

Although i have been looking for something to do in my spare time, pm me if you don't find an easy answer, i could knock you up a site no worries.

I have plenty of server bandwidth and space if you want to shoot me a pm, usually i would charge 64.99 for 6 month hosting.

but i have no problem doing £6 a month on a per month basis (so no contract) so you can cancel it at any time.

you'll be buying a domain name i guess ?
i'll guide you through the process if you wish (and the setting up etc)

if you don't want to pay, i'm sure there is plenty of free webhosts out there that will hopefully cater for your needs, although you will be very limited to what you can do on free webhosts.
