Does anyone here fly power kites? kite board or buggy? or kite surf?

I've just got me a 5 metre powerkite, it's fucking lethal but so awesome Laughing

Just about getting the hang of flying it now Laughing That was in very very low winds.. I won't be taking it out in high winds thats for sure Laughing

Buggier here Flying a bullet 5.5 AKA widow maker and a peter lynn phantom 9m depower floaty fun

Did do landboards but my shoulder couldnt cope with the bike and crashing the board and started to give me greif Mr. Green

Watch youself with that thing if its anything like my bullet it can puck you up without warning and drop you like a sack of spuds haha you got your first pendulum jump yet ?

If you find you start to get blisters with the handles stick your bike gloves on.

Once you get used to it and want more power look for a depower kite.
With handles if the kites in the wind the power is on permenant with the depower you push the bar away and the kite looses power and returns to zeneth above you. You can let go of the bar and it just sits there so you can have a cuppa tea or make a call Its great.

If your ever in skem or ainsdale shoot me a message and you can have a go of the 9 and the buggy youll love it

Fly safe

Used to have great fun with one up at Dunstable Downs - never bothered with a buggy or owt, we just squatted on a metal tea tray which would slide quite nicely over wet grass.
I called it a day after one of the lads caught an obstruction on the ground (think it was the top of a rock), ripped the arse out of his jeans, and needed stitches to his ragged buttocks.

Sick

Tried taking it up to Butser hill in a good wind yet? I reckon if you caught a good draught up there you could probably make it to the isle of wight. Laughing

quacker_boy's your man, as he's a kite surfer and if I remember correctly he's good enough to get some sponsorship!

I had a go but kept leaving the ground, so had to stop before I endangered all around me Embarassed Need a weight belt like the diving one I had!

Weight belt wont help, cos the Kite will simply pull you along the ground rather than lift you up Laughing

I've been on a 3.3, 4.9 and a 9m Blade.

Shocked The 9m was a very swift go, as I was genuinely unexperienced enough for that.

The 3.3 in VERY strong winds is one of the most fun/dangerous things I have done, and I take bikes on tracks, have done some very silly sht in my time Laughing

If you've never been dragged along on your stomach by an unparalleled force, try it. Laughing

I've had a fair few 10-15 feet jumps on the 4.9 but it was vair risky. And never got enough time to actually improve on any kinda of technique, was more for shts and giggles really.

Awesome fun though Thumbs Up Mr. Green

The smaller ones can be a lot more dangerous in high winds than the larger ones! - The biggies do have loads more power, but being slower makes them a 'bit' more controllable!

The little 'uns in high wind are just waaayyyyyy to fast to be safe!!! hehe!

haha we should have a BCF Kite day

3.3 blade had 2 mates maimed by one of them great kite had the power to get you off the ground but lacked the power to keep you up there resulting in a fast decent Mr. Green

A plastic snow sledge is fun down the beach

Suprised there is so many kiters here actually!

Cyber, I do plan to go depower soon, when I get the hang of flying well enough to start boarding.

I haven't had any big jumps or anything on mine yet.. only flown it once and spent most of that time trying to get the lines un-tangled Laughing got the hang of it all now and flying it fairly okay in very light winds.. it did pick me up once but not by much.

Should be out tomorow and think the winds a bit stronger so this should be funny Laughing

Might get a Beamer 3 M soon for higher winds.

I started a few months ago Very Happy

Got a Bullet 5.5, just getting bit better with Pendulum Jumps with it but still not mastered it. Tried it with my landboard and cant get the hang of that, tried it in a big flat field yesterday and got a little better with it but my favourite place is a massive long hill and you get a nice uplift on it for flying static. Been out in 10-12mph winds and got lifted about 6ft to my feet my bro said so not too bad.

I want a 4.9 Blade though as this Bullet just wants to pull pull pull and doesnt have the uplift of a blade, so you've got to do Pendulums to get in the air. My first go was with a 4m Blade III in about 15-20mph winds ...I havent had as much airtime with this Bullet as I have that!

I went out today, rather gusty haha

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8Qb4WQ6yoQ

Very Happy

Think I'll be getting some kite killers and go that place when theres less wind! I couldnt apply the brakes I was being lifted so I was just about weightless just touching the floor all the time so I was just going wherever really! Didnt even have to move the kite about

Some of my 'favourites' on youtube which inspired me to take it up, well minus the two crash ones, but they're just funny Laughing

Off some mountain in South Wales, massive hang time! Floaty

Kite Crashes into camera man

Guy getting dragged into the sea by a Blade
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNDYw-lAdRc

When I watch them vids I think wow they're high, and when doing it myself I feel really high but then play footage back and I'm not as high as I think, so god knows how high it feels on vids like that link I called 'some jumping vid' !!! There's another good vid on youtube called Brighton Kite Jumping Extreme which is worth watching

Cool Pics Cool

Here's a flash guide to the Pendulum type jump I've found helpful for a start
https://chris.m.whittaker.googlepages.com/pendulumjump

Thats a start to doing it, I'm just starting out with it and I'm finding that its just getting that timing right. Sometimes I'll run like mad one way and not jump or have sent the kite the other way too late, so it just looks like I'm running randomly, and I feel abit frustrated like I've ran for nothing. But then sometimes I'll send it really quickly and not run much and maybe it'll take me by surprise so its all about timing the run, sending the kite, and the jump I guess. You dont 'have' to jump I've found when doing pendulums but it does help you on your way Very Happy

There's two forums I've got some good advice and stuff on, racekites and flexifoil forums. I put that vid on racekites and got attention from a few 'safety nazis' Laughing

Yeah should do a bcf kite day haha

Bastards, that looks fun so I've spent the last few hours reading up on the subject and getting increasingly frustrated. Whilst the land surfing looks most enjoyable I wonder if it would be easy enough to make a hybrid buggy/wheelchair...

Thinking Laughing

A fairly small kite and buggy shouldnt be too difficult TS!

They do race them, somewhere, so I would think there is definitely the scope for this.

I say small so it doesnt take you off to the sun Laughing

Yeah, me too but what I'm really confused about is what size to buy Confused If Sparks' 5m takes him off the ground and the 3m Louise is buying is gonna drag her about, what size is good for a beginner? Thinking
