Inline aaa battery?

Not sure if this is the right place to put this but its to do with biking in general I suppose.

When im going on a long journey I like to listen to music but I hate batteries. Even rechargeable ones are a pain in the ass.

So, I was thinking, is there a product out there already or is it possible to make a sort of inline aaa battery.

My mp3 player takes one of these and if I put a wire on either contact where the battery goes and attatch it to some sort of device or mixture of resistors etc and to the battery. Would this work?

Anyone done this or got any ideas?

I want to do the same thig for my little camera that i use. It uses 2 AA batteries but they don't last very long. I would be interested to hear if anybody has any ideas.

So you want to attach your MP3 player to your bike battery?...

If it uses x1 AA battery then surely your Mp3 player only uses 1.2~1.5 volts and the bike battery is 12volts, it'd cook your MP3 player.

For simplicity I'd probably stick a cigarette lighter socket thing on the bike and get a plug into that which is compatible which does all the stepping down for you. My K800I runs on 3.6 volts and the cig plug thing steps it down for me.


You can do such things however what you need is some dowel and some tape and just wire the +VE and the -VE to the ends of the dowel and stick it into the battery compartment. I used to do this all the time when 35mm cameras were all the rage there was a need to buy 3volt batteries of a certain size which were expensive , so I went to Maplins bought a battery holder , box thing and wired it to take AAA batteries with the holder taped underneath the camera.

Yeah that thing would do the trick, you'd probably have to cut the ends to be able connect them up to your mp3, if you do that make sure your clear which end is +ve and which is -ve or you could cook your mp3 player.

That could be used with anything that uses batteries then because you can adjust the voltages. Does the Mah rating matter. I read the aaa is something like 900-1155 and this device is 1500mah at 1.5v

Nah mAh just tells you how much current it can provide per hour. It only makes a difference if you are running a high drain device or if you are using batteries.

Like a 1500mAh battery can provide 1500mA for one hour, or it can provide 750mA for two hours.

If you wanted to take a more technical approach however all you would need to do is build a very simple circuit with a voltage regulator, it would cut the voltage down to a level that is suitable for your mp3 player. The main problem is the amount of heat that would be generated dropping 12v to 1.5v.. Although you could drop 12V to 5ishV on one regulator then run that through another regulator to drop the voltage to 1.5V.

this can be done using a series of the correct resistors. i dont know major details, but i had somenoe do it for me so i can use my bullet cam on the bike without it running out. works great! just make sure you put a connector in it, as the best way would be to solder the wires into your mp3 player - or make some sort of battery sized thing which will go in and stay in so you can still use normal batteries the rest of the time.

remember too, that your bike battery does not run at 12v's! when riding it will be more like 14-15 ish.

I have tried a long cig socket cable from the battery into the tankbag where I ran a mains inverter and powered devices from the mains charger.
