I'm looking into using newsgroups to download music/movies instead of the increasingly frustrating torrents.

Anyone have any recommendations as to which group is best, cost and d/l limits etc.

Thanks in advance.

Giganews, Newzbin, Newsleecher, WinRAR. The only four words you will ever need Wink

If you need a Newzbin invite I can invite you.

Phanny,

Agree with the Giganews, Newsleecher & Winrar but what is Newzbin? Is that like a Demonoid for newsgroups?

Fancy throwing an invite my way? Very Happy

Sort of, its basically the best place on the net for downloading .nzbs, so quick and easy! Give me your email address and I'll give you an invite, it costs though so beware, well worth it though, think it is 30p a week.

I'll third all of the above, though I tend to use GrabIt instead of Newsleecher.

Giganews is an expensive server but the retention is phenomenal and the files rarely need repairing so its money well spent.

I'll also send Newzbin invites if they're needed.

Its more like a pay as you go version. Instead of paying £xx monthly and downloading what you feel like, you buy download amount (125gig for $25) etc, and this lasts until you use it up.

I don't download much, so this lasts me for months before I need to 'top up' again.

See this wouldn't work for me as I've had Giganews for bang on a year and in that time I've downloaded 2,700 GB Laughing

Bit pissed off they bumped up their prices without telling me though!

I think thats a great idea if you only download music/video every now and then, you'll definately save money and have the bonus of having whatever media you choose at your disposal.

However, for heavier users this simply wouldn't do. Theres been times when I've been aquiring at least 40 gig of smut, 20 gig of xbox 360 media, 20 gig of stuff to watch (Sopranos/Heroes/CSI season sets) and vast catalogues of music, all over one weekend. This pretty much goes on week in week out so with regards to the OP they should get an idea of how much they will be using and sign up with whomever accordingly

Can't recommend newzbin highly enough. They are the guys who developped the format and they have a real understanding of the technology.
I highly recommend HellaNzB for downloading too.

I signed up with Newsdemon ages ago for a one-month service, just to see what it was like. That was about a year ago and it's still live, and pretty good too. Newsleecher and Supersearch for finding stuff.

Hello chaps,

With the imminent soft modding of the Wii I thought I'd dip into Newsgrroups, anyone got a Newzbin invite they can send me?

Muchos gracias.

You might want to switch to https://www.news.astraweb.com/specials/kleverig-11.html

I did a month or so back and it's just as good as Giganews but kinder to the wallet. Their site's shit but once you're up and running you're never going to look at it again anyway.
