What was the deciding factor in buying your present bike?

When i saw the zxr up for sale i decided that i just had to have it, being a bike a had drooled over as a youngster. There was no thought given to comfort, economy or even longevity so i guess i bought it purely for its looks.

I'm sure that there were lots of combined reasons why you bought the bike you now own but what was the overriding factor that decided your present bike for you ?

Comfort and ability to do anything that is thrown at it. Eg. track days, Off road, touring, commuting, etc.

First time I looked at my little triumph I just had to have it! She was in desperate need of TLC and I knew I was the man to give it to her (so to speak )

I wanted something a little unusual. Everyone I know rides jap 600's, no that there's owt wrong with jap600's, just that they're not for me!

I was looking at CB500's and the like but the SV650N looked right and sounded right.

Shame it was more than I wanted to spend...

I go for the look of the bike TBH
I got the old zx6r J2 and within 2-3 days Scott told me was selling his - the B1H and I just had to have it.
Loved the look and I did everything to sell my J2 - Thankfully it sold a day before Scott was going to sell to someone else.

If i thought about it too much i wouldnt have bought it, its a tad too fast for me, uncomfortable, bad on fuel, bad on tyres etc...

I'd seen it 7 years ago at the back of a garage, I eventually got it, and cheap.

I wanted something bigger than a 400cc sports. Had to handle 2 up, tent, luggage etc. I was more interested in torque and ease of ride than sporty handling etc.

I went to the shop for a Bandit 1250, sat on one but it didn't feel right, the same shop had 3 XJR's yellow, blue and black. Sat on the black one and it felt right. 4500 miles on the clock it was like new.

Liked the look of it, knew it was a bit rare and so you wouldnt see a row of 10 of them at the local bike meets, and I'd heard good things of them. It was in good condition with low mileage and had new tyres and also a restrictor kit fitted already at the time, as I was 33bhp licence then. So it was appealing to be a great start to biking really.

Also, as I was taking a loan out to get the bike, I wanted one that was going to hold its value as with the premium of the loan, I didnt want depreciation to add some more money lost, and by the looks of it I can still sell it for what I paid

Its been a good choice and really I dont want to have to sell it, its been good fun, done a trackday on it and loved the fact you dont need to have a big engine. But now thinking of going further afield so maybe an area it wont be as good to me in to warrant start thinking about something else (although I think I would have to have something else and still keep it!) Its been something in the back of my mind recently, just nothing seems to fit.

When I bought the 1000.

It was a mix between the fact I had always wanted one and the reviews were awesome, and a Clarkson-esque Powwwwwaaaahhhhhhh!!! factor.

Plus it just looked amazing in the red and black paint:

NC30 - Had always knocked the 400 class for being a waste of time. Having had mine for 3 weeks now, I finally see the appeal. So much so, she's going to be a long termer.

Hornet - Had one before, good fun and wanted a unfaired bike for hooning alongside the VFR.

Mine was a total heart over head decision...

I wanted a fairly reliable, moderately powerful (ie will do NSL +10% with power to spare), good handeling bike that would start on the button first time every time, required minimal servicing with bullet-proof build quality. Unsurprisingly I was looking at CB500s and the like, but I ended up with my Bullet simply because one came up for sale 15miles from me with only 50odd km on the clock for under half list price. Was a no brainer to buy it, but it didn't exactly fit my brief! Having said that I think I've enjoyed myself more than I probably would have had on a CB, it's a bit of a rarity (compared to the CBs anyway) and I would now think I'm competant enough with a spanner to attempt working on any bikes I get in the future!

Next bike is possibly going to be a 650 V-Strom (keeping the Enfield as well), but knowing me I'll prob end up with a BSA A10 or something equally unlike the V.

Was limited to a 600 being my first bike. Got it in my head that I could only really fit on a cbr 600f. Also was taking the mrs on the back. Just seemed the best alrounder. If i was to buy now though it would be an RR or something a bit more 'racey' if you like.

I went to buy a number plate for the 125 and came out with the GT

But do love it, goes round corners well, loads of power, and really good mpg. In fact it goes round corners too well, in a matter of 2 days i've worn out my toe slider and am now starting on my boot.
