"an interim payment of £2,249 pounds to cover 50% of the damage to your vehicle, your motorcycle clothing and your helmet
please note we have not yet made a claim for your injuries, so please advise us further on a time convenient for you to see one of our doctors"
i invite the rest of BCF to join me in an extremely large smile of relief thats better...
and hello by the way, im back
as you know i was due to be away until early july, but i cut the trip short....
its a very complicated story, but as simply as i can put it...on of my friends onboard, a fellow apprentice, decided he wanted to kill himself, he ate nearly 60 pills a mixture of paracetemol and ibuprofen, then dropped himself down a ladder, by accident i'd like to think
unfortunately i was the one who found him, when he was missing for longer than he should have been, he was in the middle of one of the duties we keep onboard
he is ok, but has screwed up his liver beyond repair, clever him
this was enough for me, and was the only nudge i needed to get out of there, having been unhappy since i joined that ship, and sceptical for the past year about whether i actually want to do the job im doing. the next morning i told them i no longer want to do this job and they are flying me home, or i'm swimming
i got back yesterday morning, hell of a swim
basically i joined the Royal Navy to work with aircraft, i didnt quite make the cut for Air Engineering Artificer in basic training, so i got catergorised into Weapon Engineering, a job ive never wanted to do, its hard to describe but its a highly electronics based job, mostly maintaining the Weapons, Radar, Sonar, and Comms equipment onboard, which in real terms, simply invloves poking at things with a multimeter, with highly complex wiring diagrams laid all over the floor around you, until you fix it, its your kit and you are responsible 100% to keep it working and availible to the Captain for use. The Navy train you to do this job, and once trained, it isnt difficult. This is not my complaint, it simply isnt and never has been a field that has interested me, neither is it the kind of challenge (should that be lack of challenge/excitement) i want for the next 8 years.
A year is long enough to hate what you are doing, so im changing it, and i'm gonna kick up a fuss until somebody listens or i get kicked out. My personal target is a transfer to the Fleet Air Arm, or Royal Air Force.
In 2 months time, i will be able to get myself 100% out of debt (Thanks to See Above) thus the Navy no longer has me financially by the balls. Hence, i have the freedom now to do what i want, and am not tied by needing that 100% regularity of income.
Essay 1 complete.....
Furthermore
I went to see a Surgeon Commander, about two weeks ago, shortly after we sailed. Some of you may know ive had problems with my left leg since the accident, and all doctors have told me to this point is that it will heal over time. This Surgeon Commander, after about 2 mins of fiddling with my leg informed me that i have torn a ligament in my left knee. Now this is a fairly major thing as their are only two ligaments per knee. They require an operation to repair, and up to a year of recovery and physio to get back to full strength. I have so far wasted 8 months possible recovery time because nobody has been able to diagnose the problem. I am deeply pissed off at a number of doctors (military and civilian) for this.
So thats two pieces of good news...
Given that i was sent to sea with a serious injury, something that should never have happened...i do have a bargaining chip in my favour, so hopefully things should be getting a lot better for me career wise in the near future.
Side note: still got to see america, had 24 hours in Florida, and managed 5 hours (count them ) in New York, before catching my connection flight, enough time to see some stuff, lose a credit card, and buy myself a New York Yankees baseball cap
It's good to be home ____________________ So in other words, he stopped you for being flagrantly in posession of a motorcycle in direct contravention of the Hippies, Darkies and People Whose Face I Don't Like The Look of (Police Powers) Act. 1976 |

Goosey!
I know someone who is in the RAF and they hate every minute of it. They don't like going abroad and don't really like aircraft either... but I guess its what you make it really.
If the whole armed forces thing doesn't work out then my work are recruiting people soon. They would like anyone with an electronics background and who knows stuff about computers. Its quite good fun and you get to go to all sorts of TV and radio stations/companies.
I really want them to recruit some people who aren't numptes, so if you manage to swim back to the UK then give it some thought!
If you truly don't like the job then I think it is good that you should take the opportunity to change while you can.
Good luck with the swim and see you on dry land! ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F
