Hi all, i just bought a CBR 600FS (2002 model) and as part of the deal, it got a free service. Turns out amongst other things, they're replacing the tyres.

I've never ridden on new rubber before, is there anything I need to be particularly aware of, and what's the best way to scrub them in?

Cheers, Mike

To ride it, the releasing agent comes off in 50 metres on the road , the bits on the side won't though..

But all in all for a tyre to get its max grip you need to bed them in which can take 50-100 miles.

Myself however on fresh BT20s went riding out in the pouring rain from Wigan to Manchester and 12 hours later I was in France, France certainly scrubbed the tyres in nicely. Very Happy

Like what Itchy said, and to add if you have the choice of scrubbing them in the dry..do it otherwise the 1st few roundabouts will be entertaining in the wet.

Nothing sudden is the key, speaking from experience (636 + greasy road + new rear tyre on the wrong way + hamfisted throttle = disaster). You need to be gentle and progressive, be very aware that you have them under you and dont get too excited.

I rode mine home in the pouring rain on saturday without too much trouble, just need to be patient and careful. Dont be getting all heroic for a little while yet!

Would a *little* burnout help to get the rear tyre in a more usable condition, or somehow muck it up?

difficult to lean the bike over whilst doing a burnout Very Happy
its the tyre edges that need scrubbing, if yer really really worried then rough them up with a 1/2 housebrick, but honestly just go easy if its wet.

unless you can burnout with the pegs on the ground, i doubt it. The middle bit gets srubbed almost instantaneously riding in a straight line. No to mention the front tyre...

Well it's not too hard to lean the bike over while doing a burnout, I've done it by mistake a couple of times Laughing Obviously not to the pegs, but a certain amount. And yes I did specify the rear tyre ajb.

I don't have new tyres, I was just wondering.
