...just wondering whether to pay the extra cash on TPFT insurance, or spend it on alarms etc...?

I basically have a Rossi-rep RVF and just got some quotes for transferring my current policy...I can afford the extra premium for TPFT, but that's without telling them that it has race-rep paintwork, and I'm sure that'll bump the premuim up even further...

...I don't make a habit of leaving my bike unattended, and I'll probably cover it up if I do anyway...I'm worried that if I pay the money for TPFT (without informing them of the Rossi paintwork), and the bike gets nicked, then I won't be able to claim...Confused...

...so, should I get a decent alarm/immobilser, or pay for TPFT?...(TPO is an extra £90 on top of my current policy, which is still a feckin' rip-off!)

Cheers,

Tin

IME (and Bike magazine's) Alarms don't do much as far as stopping anything but the most casual of theives... alarms going off are so common now-a-days that everyone ignores them anyway.

I read somehwere it adds the equilvelant (sp) of 1 NU group, but obviously this'll depend on the insurer

If it's been nicked they won't know it had the paintwork... so that won't be a problem. Of course you won't be able to budget in the paintwork when you get a replacement.

Do you mean TPO is £90 more than your current policy on another bike, or was that a typo?.

G...

...I was thinking more about getting one of those "pager" type devices, so that I'm notified of any potential disturbance before the alarm is triggered, and so I can run back to bike to check (and beat the $hit out of anyone messing with it!)...

...yeah, I have also read that race-rep paintwork can bump it up one insurance group, which is my main area of concern...I have also checked this on the "Bennets" website, and the premium more than doubled!

...no typo G (Confused), i have to pay an additional £90 to move from my NSR TPFT policy to TPO RVF...but the TPFT isn't too much more, I guess...

...I hate thinking of the worst, but I always do 'cos it keeps things real...anyway, if the bike is nicked, I will need to file a report with the police and give them a description of the bike, are you saying that they won't relay that information to the insurance company?...or can I get away with saying that my bike is "yellow"?

Cheers,

Tin

Personally, just for peace of mind I'd go for TPFT if it isn't too much more.
Though others probably do do it, Datatool are the only alarm I know of which you can get a pager for... It's probably gonna be around £300 inc fitting for the alarm plus another £50 for the pager... though you will get a discount on TPFT insurance in the future.

I reckon you could get away with telling the police and insurance that it was yellow.

Sorry, just being lazy really and not bothering to edit stuff (that and being at work)... I would use the 'quote' thing, but it takes up even more space.
