I have done 2000 miles on my year old (2006 model) busa. The rear tyre looks like I need to change it soon. I fancy a pair of Avon Storms but don't really want to change the front just yet. Looking around I can buy a 190/50-17 Dunlop D207 for £65 brand new. Are these tyres acceptable for the bike (I'm not Rossi) and will it work OK with the bridgestone on the front? I will be playing over the mountain at this years TT so speeds around 140mph will be needed.

D207 isn't an amazing tyre (questionable wet grip compared to a 010 which was a 'rival' of the time), but I'd still take one over an Avon any day - no way I'd actually pay for an Avon, personally.
Tyre should be ok mixed; the probability is that the having a worn front with a new rear will be more of a difference in profile than having two different models of tyres.

The speed shouldn't be an issue. A lot of hard acceleration on your fairly heavy bike is obviously going to get through it quite quickly.

Sorry, but I totally disagree.

The Avon Storms are fantastic tyres - read any review.

I have them on my ZX12R and they are very confidence inspring in the wet or dry. Heat up really quickly and last for ages.

Maybe the Storms are the first good tyres Avon has made.
I don't believe all 'reviews' tell me. And, no offence to you, find many people's tyre reviews are based on their indivdual circumstances - just like many people always recommend the bike they own, etc.
So far I haven't found a good set of Avon tyres and will need a lot more evidence before I spend my money on them.

I found a CBR600RR with 014 tyres very 'confidence inspiring'. I didn't consider it to be a good thing when I crashed it.

Personally I'd say they were the 2nd ones! The Azaros were poor, but the Viper Supersports I had on the ZX9R were great, but lasted just 1500 miles. The Storms feel like they have 95% of the grip of those, but last 4 times longer Smile

Of course it depends what type of tyres you're after and how you ride. I certainly rate the Storms a lot higher than the D207s that were fitted to the 12 when I bought it, especially in the wet, and they also feel better, and warm up much quicker, than the 021's I've had on the Blackbird and ZX9R.

Avons arent the fasionable choice, but they suffer for their reputation from a few years ago. They are making very good tyres now.

I know a few 'busa riders who rate the Storms. Only really good thing about the Azaros was the ST would give great mileage, though a weird feeling from the 7mm tread depth.
