Well going through the town last night where I stay I spotted 2 police bikers heading in towards me from a side street as I rode by. I though f*** they're going to follow me.... Rear mirror check.. yep he's turning round and coming this way. Pulls me over and checks the bike right through etc...

He Says 'you know your number plate is illegal?' I just said 'oh really? I just bought the bike a couple of weeks ago and it was like that when I got it.' (which is true) He thought that was fair enough and said I had to get it changed in 7 days and get an MOT tester to stamp the pink slip. Which I've done this morning.

The guy that pulled me over was actually an alright guy. He recognised the bike I had and started having a conversation about it and called it a 'wee revvy monster' Razz Then asked where I got my leathers as he thought they were cool. So fair enough, off he goes... I waited for him to leave before I started up as he's not noticed my Illegal Scorpion can yet.

At this point my mate drives by and parks up a bit in his car. There's a huge gathering of police just down the road. (this is in a retail car park by the way) The way they were working it was the two police bikers were sitting waiting at a roundabout waiting for boy racers to go by then going after them while one over takes the car and the other one follows him, then they lead them into the bit where there's about 6 police guys and 3 police cars/vans. They get their cars looked through for illegal things such as tinted windows etc... I sat in my mates car for a few hours just watching everyone get pulled over by the bikers and examined.

The biker cop also gave me a little slip headed 'Bikesafe Scotland'. Going on about small number plates and they're really cracking down on them now. He also tipped me off about not going through Callendar on sunday as he'll be there pulling over every bike with small plates and fining every one of them on the spot. So looks like we might have to take a detour on the rideout tomorrow guys. Well I'm leaving my large plate on for now anyway.

Well my first experience with the Police on my bike wasn't bad at all. Thumbs Up

Gawd that's a bit long... hope someone actually reads this. Confused

Had a funny thing happen to me and my mate yesterday. I was giving my mate a lift to an exam we were both doing. Got to Finsbury Circus and as usual there were no spaces. I spotted a very small gap, but wasn't sure if I could fit in it. So I told my mate to hold it for a minute while I check round for more spaces.

A Police van passes my mate 3 times then pulls over next to him and blocks me in as I'd just pulled up next to him. They start asking him why he was hanging around the bikes, they thought he was trying to steal one (that area has lots of bikes stolen). Laughing

I thought they pulled over because of something I'd done. Laughing

The Police directed me to the relatiuvely safe undergroud car park down the road that is free for bikes. Smile

Good to see the plod doing something about bike theft. Thumbs Up

hehe i did!

And yeh the law arent always that vindictive, i got pulled a while back on my 50 and in theory i coulda got bitched by them.

I was riding home at 2 in the morning, had just come off a dually, round a tight tight tight bend and was then accelerating up, had got to about 35 ish in a 30 (which was lucky). Suddenly EVERYTHING went blue, looked in mirrors headlights and sirens.

Pulled over. Had no rear plate, no tax disc displayed (altho it was on me) and an mp3 player blaring. They then just said they were checking i didnt nick it as i didnt seem to have the right gear on (100 quid gloves, 400 quid jacket and 200 quid helmet riiiiite). Then did the normal, name address etc, which i spouted cofidently. got in a convo about my gear and my not wearing boots, i said i had a 140 pair at home but didnt like wearing them on short boring trips.
Anyway got told off about my broken rear plate, said it had just happened (which it had) and showed them my tax.

Then he noticed my mp3 going, said nice touch, said my bike was bloody nippy for a 50, then they drove off.

Luckily not noticing my 8th of hash and has pipe and the fact i was very stoned at the time (hence why i only vaguely recall it), and before the flaming twas dumb and i dont really do it anymore. But never mind.

I think I'll get a proper sized plate. the one on my bike when I got it isn't as small as yours Prox, But I don't have luck like yours, I'd probably get fined. One of those faces I think Confused

The guy did say he didn't mind if it was a little smaller than it should but as long as the letters were the right size.

I don't see the big deal myself. I'll need to change mine for the MOT I take it. I'll probable leave it on after.

On smaller bikes they do look a bit like a sail though.

I might change my (original) one as it seems to be one third covered in bike shop advert.

Mt VFR came with a smaller plate on it. It's not a diddy one, just slightly smaller but still readable etc.

What's the amount you get fined?

I don't see the appeal in small plates personally, but then again maybe the Scarver would look silly with an R1 type micro plate Shocked

I had a 5 x 7 inch rear plate I think before my accident, and never had any probs with that, even when I was pulled over it was never mentioned, the officer even commented on how much better condition it was in compared to other local learner bikes. That plate really suited the bike as it wasn't stupidly small but it didn't "look like a sail" either. Does anyone know where I could get a replacement in the same size? I dont know if they are 100% legal and maybe you can get them only as "show plates" but it seemed to become part of the bikes character and I would definatly prefer to have it how it was. A picture of the plate is attached.

I think Halfords do plates that size... it isn't a motorcycle plate, so you'd have to ask for it. Your best bet would be to have a look on the wall behind the counter, they have most sized plates on display.
I ordered my replacement full size plate for the bike there as I wanted one with a GB/Euro badge on it for my recent trip to Normandy.

All the guy said to me was they would normally give a £30 fine. I don't know if they can give points for it too or not.
