Is it possible.

I can get a full system for the ZX6R at half price, the only problem is the can is coloured Ti.

Is it possible to polish it so it'll be plain Ti again(and not look shite)?

If it is just anodized then lots of autosol and elbow grease should take the colour off. Anodizing is only generally around 60 microns thick if i remember rightly, so shouldn't take to much polishing.

If it is like what blue flame do to their cans (so a blue faded into silver etc), i aren't sure how they do it/what process is involved, so i aren't to sure on how you would get it off.

Other option would be to take it to a engineering firm that have acid dipping tanks and offer them some beer tokens and see if they will dip it for you. (i doubt they would if it is used, as all the coke/sut etc will FUBAR their tanks).

Although, if you get it acid dipped then it will obviously need repacking and it will most probably take the sticker/colour off the rivetted on tag off.

Is it just the can that is a pansy colour or the headers and link pipe aswell?

It's new, but ex demo so it's been opened. The guy I'm buying it off said it would polish out.

The headers and link pipes are SG1 Stainless, so they are plain.

I think it's the same way Blue Flame do their cans. It's a full Moriwaki system so you don't come them across them too often.

I believe it's like this:

Ahhh ok, when they have colour cans like that, i believe all they do is heat treat them at different temperatures to colour the metal. (same way that your headers go brown, blue, purple etc).

So if it is anodized or just heat treated, it will polish out with a bit of elbow grease Smile

Is there any other way to coat Ti that it could be?

I've been a googling and could only find info about anodizing Ti using electrolysis or heat.

Can't think of any other ways of coating, apart from powder coating but i seriously doubt they would use that (judging by that pic, it definatley isn't powder coated anyway)

Anyway, all of the processes used to coat/colour metals generally only have a shallow penetration. As i said with anodizing i believe it is only around 50-60 microns, which is actually around the size of a cock hair Laughing (yes, thats how bored we get at work...and when you work in an engineering firm you find all sorts of stuff to entertain yourself with Laughing )

My bike has a full Ti Akra system and the header and link pipe has gone an amazing blue and purple, but as soon as it gets to the can it stops. So if you polish it off, it should stay a bare metal colour (it may tarnish a bit so just re-polish it but it won't need much doing)

Don't really mind if it goes a little darker, I just don't want it to go back to the stupid horrible purple colour.

Thanks Matt. Thumbs Up

Just got off the phone to him, it's just anodized so I'd best get busy with the Autosol. Very Happy

To speed up the process a bit, you could just rub it down with some fine wet and dry to get the majority off, then just polish it with autosol to make it look pretty.

D-D-D-D-Dremel. Laughing Cool

I'll give the wet and dry a go on the back of the can in case it comes out crap.

Waiting for an email now.
