Ex cat-c write off value ?

Just went to look at an march 02 plate 954 which after putting a deposit down on has come back as a category c write off in september 2002 and a colour change, The question is how much should i try and get off it seeing as the bloke says he didnt know it had been written off early in its life ?

Id say quite a bit considering its been a cat c.

also check you can insure it first - i heard insurance companies don't like touching written off bikes but that may just be cat b/a

For a CAT C I would want a fair bit off. I bought a 2000 reg CBR6 that was cat C and had only 6k on the clock. I paid £2300 at the time (maybe about 5 years ago) whereas the going rate was about £4.5 -£5k.

Like someone mentioned, you may not be bothered about the fact its a cat C, I know I wouldnt let it bother me for the right price. Dont let the fact that you have fell in love and placed a deposit cloud your better judgement on this. Once you have bought it then its your problem, if you are keeping it for yonks then dont worry.

Get back and knock them down as far as they will go and then have a really good think about it Thumbs Up

Well i phoned my insurance company and there saying all that changes is i need to send them a copy of its current MOT to show its roadworthy, Also i had him take it for an alignment check which it passed aswell as the new mot he also found some paper work from the dealer he bought it from and it does state that it was a previous cat c that they fixed up to sell (Rider motorcycles), So think im going to have it seeing as there seems to be no frame damage (still original frame and crankcase) besides i'll probly keep it till its pops on me anyway:)

Depends on what a 954 is, do you mean the fireblade 954? If so then I wouldnt be paying that much, autotrader shows bikes with similar mileage and no letters for that price give or take a few hundred quid.

Have a look yourself at similar bikes on biketrader or whatever to get an idea of price, why go for the written off one when you can have one that hasnt been crashed? Dont let your heart run away with your head and pay over the odds for it Thumbs Up

That may be. In my case it was cosmetic frame damage that wrote it off so no impact on the bike at all, no problem as it came at a very very good price.

However, to pay decent money for a bike with the stigma of being written off (which will matter to the insurance company and to any future buyers) when the same cash could buy you a non write off is a bit silly.

If the bikes been written off its not worth top whack, no matter how little the damage was or how well its been repaired.

I've never understood why people have a problem with a cat C/D writeoff ... you can get a bike written off just by having it fall over and damaging the fairings!!

As for insurance, no problem at all and if you can prove that the bike was restored to 100% tip top condition then you should get the market value for it if it get's nicked.

End of the day, if you want to pay £1k-£2k more for a bike in pristine condition then that's your choice, personally I'd rather buy the accident damaged one and spend £500 putting it back to pristine condition.

You're not understanding me. I deliberately went out and bought a Cat C bike a few years ago for the very reasons you have just stated. The point being that they should be cheaper than the non written off bikes, whereas this one seems to be just as expensive as a good one and therefore no point in buying it as there is no real gain.

If a well restored cat C came my way at a knockdown price then i would gladly take it Thumbs Up

If it came at the same price as a non damaged bike then I would walk away Thumbs Down

rider m.c used to be in whittlesey nr peterborough.
if its the same one bit dodgy but no worse than any one else.

the owner of that place is now the owner of TAZ m.c so your probably buying it of them in a indirect way.

£3200 is fooking way too much for a cat C 02 blade Thumbs Down

you can get a good straight one for a dam sight less.

had a cat d blackbird which was fine but not as easy to sell when the time came .

so the choice is yours Thumbs Up
