Too small for you Marc! Anna rides one and she is about 3'6" and looks about the right size for it.

I'm requesting permission off Karen to beat the living daylights out of Hippy Boy Colin.... you're in trouble boy! I'm a whole lot bigger than 3'6"
I've had two, and they're great bikes. My first was a triarm and completely reliable. I never had to do any work on it whatsoever, it started first time everytime and never let me down.
My second and current, a Gullarm, is a good bike, though not so well maintained as my first and I've had to change the fork seals, front wheel bearing and the battery (though looking at them they all looked like original parts - the bike is thirteen years old ).
The triarm reached 135mph 2 up with fatty boy Jimmythe1 on it plus a whole load of luggage), the gullarm feels slightly faster top end, though not really had any proper chance to see how much faster. ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

| Demonic69 wrote: | Why bother with a 400 though? They're expensive for what they are, small and underpowered. Insurance aint that cheap and you'll only lose money when you get bored and upgrade. | I paid £1750 for my VFR400 and being my first 'bigger' bike it doesn't seem under powered at all.
I am 6 foot and it's pretty comfortable, it rides nicely and corners very well. As for power, it's as quick as I need for the time being, it still does 0-60 in about 4.2 seconds and with a top end of 130-140 that's fine for now.
I'm 25 and hadn't ridden for 5 years, no no-claims discount, just got cat A license and my insurance is £220 for the year with £150 excess. That's cheaper than my 1 litre VW Polo with 4 years NCD and many years experience, so insurance seems good to me too.
Also the resale of the VFR seems good. As long as you look after it they seem to hold their value very well so keep it for a year or two while you learn and you shouldn't lose any money on it.
Over all I think 400s are excellent little bikes (the VFR is anyway) and ideal for people like me that used to ride 125s and want to come back to play again.
There are many reviews of several of the 400s that state how excellent they are too, including the fact that they tend to beat riders on 600s round the twisties leaving them blushing. (not done this yet, but I'm new! )
Before I got my VFR I considered a baby blade but they seem a lot harder to come by and the VFR has that nice single swing arm as well as the nice back wheel.
If you can find a baby blade in fireblade colours then grab it, they look very nice and are a fun bike. |

I bought my cbr400 gull for £1300, that not much at all. Its a j-reg, and runs very nicely . As i said all ive had to do is the reg/rec, which is a common fault on the Honda 400s.
Peformance is very similar to Vfr400, under 5 seconds or there abouts. tops 130. It beats most cars. A 600 will have better roll on speeds etc but the 400 does a damn good job of lashing past cars, from equal speed. You do have to rev them, but that makes good fun. 600s may be too much for a beginner, off a 125 test unless you have a VERY sencible head on you!
For about 1500 quid you get a hell of a lot for your money. rs125 for example go for that kind of money, 400s waste 125, like they dont even exist.
400s are great for a beginner, just passed test. |
