would it be a strange request when withdrawing money to request new notes?

reason i ask is I am off to Cuba shortly and have heard lots of stories of refusal to exchange if the notes aren't good, bad being rips, tears, marks of any kind. basically sounds like they need to be fresh off the printer.

When I went to Cambodia a few years ago they refused to take old looking notes, we couldn't work out what was going on for a while! Should be okay if you explain the situation in the bank though. Thumbs Up

Some countries are like that apparently (quite a few in asia). If you want fresh notes then you need to order them before going to collect as they arent always handy and it isnt as straight forward as taking them out of the safe unfortunately.

Fairly common request and most will help if they can/youre nice about it.

Cuba is picky as fuck.

no american dollars
no cards from banks with any american affiliation, i.e. capital one, any MBNA card, AMEX
no travellers cheques as they are normally AMEX

pretty much euros, GBPs and possibly UK credit cards that are Visa or Mastercard only. Can't even use debit cards in some places, even Visa ones.

So why not get visa traveller cheques?

Last thing you want is to wake up and realise all your cash is gone awol with little or no recourse.

Yes Tatters, I have used them outside Europe, never with any problem, might be because thats what they are designed for Wink

I,ve found in alot of places including Europe people did not want to change travelers cheques and when they did there was of course a fee to do so! the only place that did were banks and there are not always open.

Cheaper and easy to use ATM,s exchange rates if possible or take cash in a easy changeable currency dollars/euros
