Right, Im sort of understanding some of this tax malarky, but Im not too up on everything.
I've worked for the company I currently work for 3 and a half years, but only over the last full tax year 08-09 been on Salary. Trouble is, being still in my "apprenticeship" I change pay-grades on a yearly basis (September). So April 08 I was earning 13K per annum, roughly, and September '08 Im earning 18K pa or thereabouts.
Just got my P60 through. I was on 603L (emergency tax code, I believe?) for the tax year. I am now on 647L (which I believe is the new emergency tax code). As I understand it, my company now have enough information about me, so I shouldnt be on emergency tax anymore? Or is it a good thing that I am?
The only deductables out my salary are Tax and NI, I dont have a pension.
So any tax boffins out there that can clearly explain whether Im on the right tax code, if I can find out if Im owed anything, or explain more of this for me? (Im looking at Itchy tbh)
Cheers guys ____________________ "Oh....it looks like Average Joe's is forfeiting the match!" - "Yeah, its a risky strategy but lets see if it pays off for 'em Cotton." |

Forget about tax codes, just punch it into an online calculator and look at the total tax taken off vs your gross pay , if its more tax taken off phone the tax office and they'll give it you back in the next pay cheque.
If its less keep schtum about it.
I'm guessing overall you were paid about £15-16000 gross.
based on 6 months at 13K and 6 months on 18K
6x1083 (gross)
6x1500 (gross)
Thus in total should have paid £1,895.00 in income tax. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. In the end, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching. |

What if you KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that you've gone nowhere near your bracket, when will you get back all the tax contributions (and hopefully NI... ).
Fiscal year ended a month ago the faggots.
And I sent him a letter to that effect ^ (that I was no where near my bracket, not that they were faggots). ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
From September 2014 to January/February 2015 I will not be using any English, nor reading any. As such, I won't be on here. PM at will, but I won't be checking/posting unless in emergencies. Certainly not for the first couple of months. Please berate me savagely if I break that rule... |

They won't do jack and hope you forget, bring your P60 (should be issued now) to the local tax office and they'll ask you to fill in some forms and leave your P60 as evidence and you should get either a cheque or the amount of tax overpaid in your next pay cheque.
IIRC you got a job in January ~ 18K pa , meaning you probably got about £1500 gross and on std PAYE would have been taxed about 325 a month.
So Jan + Feb + March
= 4500 gross = zilch tax as below personal allowance.
But you probably would have been taxed 325-350 a monthand thus you owed no tax and should get it all back....
You never tend to get NIC back though so forget about that.
The important point is to go to the tax office in person where they cannot avoid you and or put off opening your letters. HMRC operates a basket system where the employees have a central basket of post which gets randomly plucked for jobs by the inspectors. You go there and sign and in effect you jump the queue of letters. If you phone them up they'll tell you to post your P60 in which has the same effect. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Thanks for the reply.
Started beginning of Feb, so Feb and March definitely, might even get Aprils if I'm lucky.
Also had the odd work before then, but certainly not much (will I be seeing that money I wonder).
Only getting taxed about £100 per month at the moment anyway, but its my money dammit. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

You should always punch in the numbers from your P60 into a website such as https://listentotaxman.com/ at the end of the tax year to ensure that the correct amount has been taken.
Remember to type in your tax code if it's non-standard (to take into account other earnings for example). ____________________ Yamaha TDM 850 |
