Further spoiler because not Tyler had a metal plate put in him when he got mashed up or whatever he did, stopped him killing himself but killed Tyler.. Apparently.

Q. At the end of Fight Club, when Edward Norton shoots himself in the mouth, how does it kill Tyler Durden and not Edward?
A. Tyler was all in Edward's head, and Tyler was a separate part of Edward's mind. When Edward shot himself, only HE knew that the gun was not angled at his own brain. The Tyler part of his brain did NOT KNOW that the gun was angled at his cheek. Therefore, the Tyler part of his brain "knew" that it was dead, and subsequently died.

If you're a fan of the film, i'd certainly recommend reading the book - it gives a more in-depth understanding of space monkeys etc.

Oh yeah, and you're all not supposed to talk about it either. You're doing it wrong!!

Couldn't agree more, the book is immense. I am still unsure about the ending... I need to read it again to decide what truly happens at the end.

Its not just how clever it all is, its the stuff like, "as calm as hindu cows" and awesome stuff like that.
