Well it's almost done. Been quite a while and I've missed alot of riding, but heres the story thus far. Hopefully to be concluded this summer in time for nice weather riding, but I'd honestly go out in a hurricane just to get back out.

This is as much a way for me to set out my bikes life and have a kinda timeline, as it is to show you lot how its going.

Anyway this is my CBR600FX, 1999 when i bought it back in 2005, she had been dropped and had not been looked after, pretty much shagged chain/sprocket, oil was like liquid ghey-ness, tyres were square, reg/rec was fried, panels had a few holes/ scrapes, and other stuff I cant remember, so anyway.

https://file010b.bebo.com/large/2006/04/05/15/15563088a539446094b416933457l.jpg

Then I got my test and out on the road. So then since the panels weren't in the best condition, and I'm a bit of a random guy, I decided to respray her, as it's a common enough bike, but rather than a nice and shiney paint job I chose.... Matt Black "Plasticote" lol.

https://file010b.bebo.com/large/2006/04/24/19/15563088a681585814b801099087l.jpg

Then I had a bit of an accident, and messed up both myself and the bike, resulting in some bits of metal,

https://file023a.bebo.com/14/large/2006/10/28/14/15563088a2388972162b786324793l.jpg

And some other bits of metal,

https://file021a.bebo.com/2/large/2006/11/24/18/15563088a2641784576b198700384l.jpg

So that left me a cripple for a while, and as it was winter i wasn't for sitting on the garage floor working at the bike in the cold, so it sat for a while. Then I started stripping her, and decided I may as well do a proper job on it, due to its hard life.

https://file031b.bebo.com/8/large/2007/04/02/13/15563088a3990563701b704972407l.jpg
https://file031b.bebo.com/8/large/2007/04/02/13/15563088a3990565241b87388711l.jpg

And after a bit of a clean up she didn't look too bad to be honest,

https://file019b.bebo.com/13/large/2007/07/24/22/15563088a5075989526l.jpg

Decided to change the fork oil and repaint the forks,

https://file019b.bebo.com/13/large/2007/07/24/22/15563088a5075988689l.jpg

not sure what fork oil should look like, but I don't think it should be like this,

https://file012b.bebo.com/8/large/2007/07/24/23/15563088a5076239418l.jpg

Also gave the garage an overhall, put in shelves/ bench etc

https://file014b.bebo.com/6/large/2007/07/24/22/15563088a5076013685l.jpg
https://file019b.bebo.com/14/large/2007/07/24/23/15563088a5076210323l.jpg

tided up the radiator and replaced the broken fan unit,

https://file012b.bebo.com/8/large/2007/07/24/23/15563088a5076239047l.jpg

Put on a Remus Carbon Fiber straight through can, HEL braided hoses, rim tape, and started mocking up the panels for paint job,

https://file014b.bebo.com/2/large/2007/07/24/15/15563088a5071463315l.jpg
https://file014b.bebo.com/2/large/2007/07/24/15/15563088a5071461499l.jpg

And now the paints almost done, the bikes basically ready, just needs a battery, nose fairing painted, tyres, and some coolant.
note the Snazzy Leathers Very Happy

ignore the nose panel not looking right, it needs painted.

https://file040b.bebo.com/8/large/2008/04/11/16/15563088a7414502123l.jpg
https://file040b.bebo.com/8/large/2008/04/11/16/15563088a7414502322l.jpg

So hopefully soon there will be pics of her outside soon, and a vid to let you hear the exhaust, whoop.

Forgot to mention, also put on some black levers, and painted the downpipes, as well as repairing a hole in the front panel, and I'm going to paint the pegs black, pics will follow. Smile

Looks absolutely gorgeous like that, did you do the design yourself? I'd be well chuffed if I were you.

BTW are those halverson gloves?

Thanks for the comments guys,

Cost to spray bike, about £30-40 I think, used about 4 or 5 cans of black and then about 2-3 cans of clear so far. Obviously if your only doing it matt black it'll be cheaper as you just need the black.

Got the flouresent red sticker sheet for free, mocked it up using tape and then cut them out by hand.

Gloves are Richa Very Happy Thumbs Up

Just got more paint for the nose, matt metal paint for the pegs, bar ends, and some electrical connectors today lol. woohoo.

Finally got the bike finished (well as finished as I'm going to be doing,a s it needs stearing bearings replaced, and an exhaust stud replaced so I'm getting a garage to do that.)

I'm well chuffed with the end result, just need the MOt and that so I can take her out to play. The end can sounds class, nice and deep burble noise, can't wait to hear it on the over-run.

Mate thats nice to see.

It looks like a right fucking mess 'post crash'. I would be thinking wave it off and just buy another. But shows what you can do with a bit of time and effort. Quite inspiring to lazy, idle bastards like myself.

Well in Thumbs Up

Still needs a bit of work, I need an air intake tube, and disk or two lol.

And it needs a coat of petrol proof clear, as I found out this afternoon filling her up from the jerrycan lol.

Thanks Smile

Hi SavageKymco

I have the exact same model as you and I love it except for the big yellow CBR stickers on the side.

I wanted to ask...

You know those big yellow CBR stickers you can see in your first picture, can those easily be peeled off without damaging the paint work on the fairing underneath?

Yea, I used a hot air gun to make the sticker soft, and then just peeled them off with a scalpel to help. This leaves some sticky residue on the panel, but I just soaked it with a petrol soaked rag, and then used a metal ruler to scrape it off.

I wasn't trying to do it carefully as I was going to respray anyway, but even so, it didn't do any major damage. Just a few scratches. Just take your time and it should be fine.

Oh and don't heat the stickers too much or they go brown and hard and super stuck lol.

Thanks for responding, i'll give it a try in a couple of weeks time...

If it doesn't work I wouldn't mind a respray anyway
