PostPosted: 16:35 - 25 May 2004    Post subject: How to Annoy Mobile Phone Users Reply with quote

On my usual journey yesterday, I came up to Hanger Lane gyratory on the NCR where the traffic lights are. I filtered to the line and next to me was a convertible BMW Z4 and some bloke holding his mobile phone & having a conversation. I thought this was a good time to see if I can take my bike to 12,000 RPM. The effect was that the bloke had to stop talking and he gave me a look.

When I am in my helmet, dark glasses, and face visor, I look fairly menacing, so stared right back at him, continuing to rev the engine. He could say NOTHING as he was breaking the law, but I think he got the message from me that using a mobile while driving is very stupid!

Now, if everyone did that it might stop drivers from using their phone and possibly save a life through preventing careless driving!

Nice one mate!

although if you could have reached over and ended his call, followed by a stern wagging of the finger and slow shaking of head, that would have been hilarious!! Tut Tut

Serves him right Thumbs Up

I agree, my pet gripe on the road is seeing people on mobile phone trying to drive. I mean, for godsake I've seen women driving their kids home trying to navigate a roundabout. Does that seem just a *little* dangerous to anyone else?

I'd like to see less speed cameras and more police chasing up phones, after all 4x more dangerous due to a lessened attention span is probably going to hurt more people than 35mph in a 30 zone (not that I condone breaking the speed limit in any way)

A few days ago I saw some nutter on ped swerving all over the road to get his phone out of his pocket. Then appear to read and reply to a text message running a red light in the process. 8O
I just there was a basic intelligence test before people we allowed out :!:

Buy a white Pan European or BMW, put some reflective stickers on it & flash your lights at them?

Nobody said practical Mr. Green

I pulled up at the lights the other day behind a GSX-R 600 and started revving hard on the MT50. He laughed his head off and sped off about 80.

Woman decided to do a U-turn right in front of me last night. I was already going to blast my horn at her anyway as I had noticed she was on the phone. Stupid b**ch yelled at me as she drove off in the opposite direction. Evil or Very Mad

hahaha, classic abuse against a car-driver there. Clapping I do use my own scooter to annoy people at best as well, like today when an old fogie in a car decides it would be perfectly fine to block both lanes by going in the middle of them at the roundabout, then not indicating as she went round the roundabout. Result = plodding myself next to her open window at some lights and revving my 50cc beast ( Mr. Green ) very loud.

Just wait till i buy an exhaust...

Surely it'll be louder before getting an exhaust on there? Razz

A bike pulled out in front of me without looking this morning while I was in my car. Tyres were squeeling a bit there.

Fucking bikers.

headlamp- Sounds familiar.

I was in a queue of traffic, double whites, otherwise I'd have been filtering. A woman in an old red Vauxhall Astra estate seemed to be driving very erratically, which was it difficult when the traffic's only moving about 4mph.

The car kept veering to the left then swinging back out into the lane. I noticed she had her head hunched over to the left and on closer inspection noticed she had a mobile clamped there. She was holding the phone to the side of her head then reaching across her body with the right hand and leaning forward. She was taking her other hand off the wheel to fiddle with the stereo!

So I thought I'd see how much of her important conversation she could hear with the bike redlining. When the double whites broke I pulled along side her open window for a while and kept it going. She didn't seem to happy, kept me amused though.

Seems like these people paused for a day or two when the new laws came in, then realized that there are no police on the roads to enforce them.

Can't get done by a GATSO for using the phone and driving dangerously and you've got to be unlucky being caught speeding whilst on the phone.

BTW if your going to rev the engine hard at light make sure the bike is in neutral, Can just imagine what would happen if the clutch cable snapped.

A big wheely and mashed up bike!

In London the law was obeyed for about a month and now everyone is back on the phone! The government needs to to do an awareness campaign to stamp it out. I'll write to Alastair Darling (I have his email address) suggesting it!

Last night pulled up to the lights at Hanger Lane and a flash bloke in a Lexus convertible was yacking on his mobile! 7000 RPM in his ear and he got the message! Put the phone down & looked. I stared back, head to one side, nodded sagely and wagged my finger.

He said 'fair dues' - so it seems the message can be put across!

I'm thinking of carrying a Browning 9mm and putting a couple of rounds through their windows, but I will need to check the legality with TC.

I'll let you know what he says, perhaps we could get a discount on a BCF side arm if there's enough of us interested! Wink

Hi

Personally, if he was sat at traffic lights and not moving then what is the problem.

There already was a perfectly good law to be used against people using mobile phones. The police rarely bothered to enforce it. Now there is a blanket ban on using them, even if you are parked but with the engine running. Utterly pointless.

Yet another law to make it cheap and easy to prosecute everyone in the hope that they might catch the odd one causing a problem at the same time.

All the best

Keith

.....because the lights change, he's got one hand on the wheel and is not concentrating & continues his journey deep in conversation.

I have noticed that most drivers meander all over the road when they are on the phone. If you are filtering when someone has a meander then it is a heart stopping moment & if you swerve into a car coming the other way, then possibly your heart stops permanently!
