I have my test on Wednesday, but its in Gillingham (I live in Essex) and don't know the area. Has anyone else taken their test there and if so any advice, or things to watch out for ???? Confused

Yeah watch out for the chavs. I know the area well but not the bike routes

Don't worry about not knowing the area. Just ride calmly and keep your wits about you.

I live in Southampton but took my test in Portsmouth. Like you, i did not know the roads at all but i didn't let it worry me, and i passed. If you can ride on roads you know then you can ride on roads you've never seen before. Same rules, different scenery. You'll be fine Thumbs Up

I took my test at Gillingham. I'm in Gravesend which is about 20 mins ride away.

There's a few large roundabouts in the area so know your road positioning when arriving/exiting blah blah. I failed twice due to stupid mistakes caused by nerves. I was a complete wreck both times, i'm not exaggerating! Third time i thought sod this, why am i worrying?

All 3 times i had my test i was taken to the same place to try the U-turn, road is plenty big enough. Although i never had a problem with them on my DT anyway.

Just because its the big "T" word dont stress. just treat it like you have your instructor behind you. If anything my instructor was far stricter then the examiner was.
As Gruff Said there are a few big roundabouts in Gillingham so just make sure you remember your road positioning and mirror/lifesavers. Also rmemeber your speed limits.

before my test i was asked how i would check the condition of my chain and how to operate the headlight. then on my return what adjustments i would make if carrying a pillion and what would happen if (dam i have forgotten what there called) but the storage boxes that go either side of the bike if they were filled with potatoes and one came open and lost its contents how would it affect the bike

you dont need to know the area, you have a sat nav talking in your ear

try and find common ground with the examiner, make him like you, worked for me Very Happy

Dont worry mate my test was in an area id never been to before, i think it helps because you're a lot more aware and your looking at every road marking and sign etc. I think if its an area you know you tend to go into autopilot.

My day: got up at 4:30am, got ready, left home at 6:15am to get to Hornchurch by 7am, left Hornchurch at 7:30 to ride to Gillingham, we got there at 8:40 (my test was at 9:07) and 8:45 the Examiner came out to us to tell us his car had broken down and the replacement wasn't going to arrive until 9:30..meaning my test was cancelled. They've given me another one on Friday morning so I'll need to go through this all over again!!

At least I got an extra day's training in and got to ride some of the test route, so I now know what to expect. Confused

Bad luck mate but like you said it gave you some experience of the possible test routes.

sorry to hear that mate. when i did my e stop as i approached i made sure i slipped my right foot right back on the peg so it was no where near the rear brake and just used the front

Bad luck. Think it's harsh that you have to move onto the new test though. It's a re-test, so you should be able to re-take the same test IMO.
