 |
|
Hi to all that are reading this...
Firstly I apologise for barging onto your forum to possibly send you all silly with what to you seem to be such stupid questions.
Firstly may I attempt to sway you with the fact, although not a biker myself, I have always loved the bike. My mother refused to let me have one though and then life took over so I didn't get one as I got older.
I do always and without question pull as close to the curb as I can to let you lot go by.
I do appreciate the thumbs up that gets.
And yes, it makes me insanely jealous to see you way off ahead of me, up the hill and on your way when I am stuck behind some idiot driving 20mph!
I am writing a book and need some basic information on bikes. This site was recommended to me as apparently, your all rather lovely here!
I can not face walking up to the groups of bikers we have here in Mumbles to ask them questions as I am afraid shyness overcomes me, even with the lady riders as you all look rather scary in your leathers; although, eating ice-cream with a flake in it while you talk about your cats is rather charming (that I overheard just Sunday outside the ice-cream cafe here! I still could not pluck up the courage to get my pen out and go ask a few basic questions though).
So that any men are prepared and can go get a bucket - I am writing a romance novel.
Got those buckets? Excellent!
Ok. The hero in the book rides a bike.
My first question is this: What bike would a man in his late 30's without any financial constraints yet not utterly loaded, own?
Make? colour? I give up on the whole power thing, I have tried to research this but it is like pie in the sky to me, I can't make head or tail of it.
Also, the heroine rides a bike. She is in her early 20's (please, please don't put my girl on a moped!) What would she ride? In your opinions? She is comfortably off but is like us all really, bills and work and such things so the cost of her bike has to be considerably lower than the bike of the man in question.
I do have other questions but am not going to ask right now just in case I am breaking the rules by being on here and not having a bike or just in case you all tell me to toddle off and leave you be to get on with your lives!
Any answers would be most gratefully accepted and of course I will mention this forum in my credits!
Thank you for taking the time to read through this. |

If it is a romance book, I recond the bikes should be slightly romantic, which to be leans towards brands like Ducati and Triumph.
Maybe a 675 Daytona for him and an old Monster for her?
https://media.motortopia.com/files/9109/vehicle/47561e1d6c231/triumph_daytona_675.jpg
https://www.viewpoints.com/images/review/2007/169/22/1182222566-31452_full.jpg
The Ducati would always have something wrong with it but she could never bear to sell it. Maybe the hero can check her belts, if you know what I mean
Monsters are known for probs if not looked after properly (like a girl in her 20's with a tight purse probably would) They are also low and light, perfect for the females.
A 675 is about 8/9k brand new with extras.
The Ducati would be about £1500 or less depending on condition
The Monster is 50horsepower or 80 depending on the engine size.
The 675 is about 120hp. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.
Skudd:- Perhaps she just thinks you are a window licker and is being nice just in case she becomes another Jill Dando.
WANTED:- Fujinon (Fuji) M42 (Screw on) lenses, let me know if you have anything.

Yes, Mumbles :D
Very lovely.
Very populated with bikers I have noticed of late.
Thank you so much, this is all very useful to me.
The hero is a coastguard. He's a big, rough, tough sort of guy.
I don't know if you all know anything about the Coastguards but they are pretty tough buggers when they need to be.
He needs a proper man's bike. I considered a Harley but thought that might be too obvious. I don't want the man to be a total show off, whenever I see a Harley, I think, total show off but that is only because of jealousy
I want him to be enough of a serious biker to have a pretty decent ride and be able to carry it off with some style.
It has to be expensive but understated. Nothing too flash. Is there anything too flash in your biker realm?
When I watch you go by, I like a black bike and leathers. For that I would pull into a lay-by to let you pass never mind get close to the curb!
The clothing has to be leather. Plain and simple, no fringes, no fuss. I can't be any more specific than that as I don't know about all the different types of clothing available.
Boots? Oh moan, I had not even thought of boots!
The lady has not got on a bike for a year after an unfortunate meeting with a sheep on the common road - come on, this is Wales, what else can we hit around here?
Wild hogs is good. Do we have those bikes in this country? What are they exactly?
I have not seen the other films you mention Timbstoke so if I have offended you by asking questions, I am sorry for that.
I don't want reams of info. At the end of the day I have a job to do here and need specific details, not a story in a film and then perhaps not come up with what I actually needed from it.
Thanks for everybody's help.
I have made a note of all the bikes you mentioned and wil lgo look them all up and decide where to go from there.
Your all very kind to spare the time. |

He needs a Kawasaki ZX10R.
It says 'fuck off' to everyone and everything ever put on the planet
No ones mentioned '98 R1...
SV650 is 'accepted' first bike/ girls bike, very likely your character would be on one of these.
Good luck to you. ____________________ BCF's 6th favourite poster 2009-2010

A bike in the Harley mold, though more understated and in black, its gotta have a bit of history to fit into the romantic image, then there is only one option
The Moto Guzzi
As for her, gota be a SV650 or if you want a racier style a 400cc sports bike, however if looking at cruiser style again, you are left with the Harley 883 roadster. ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "
