Thinking about buying one on pay as you go and just wondering if there any good?

I like the look of them but mainly after the built-in gps and wifi.

Now i dont know much about phones so i'm wondering if this gps thing is free for life or subscription type thing where you pay per use/yearly?

Also~ is the wireless access the same as it is in my laptop? as in i could browse the net on the phone using my wireless router?

It also has streetmaps? built in so same question about that aswell Very Happy

Thumbs Up

i have that phone.

GPS is free, phone comes with nokia maps but only has a free 3 month directions subscription.

i have Garmin Mobile XT on my phone, let me know if you get it and i'll sort you a copy.

wifi is fine on my home network, my parents and work. i think it was ok on the train too, but it was busy.

yeap wifi is wifi, but the browser is different, it scales the images so takes a little longer, some pages know you are using a mobile too so you get the mobile version, some you can over ride, some you cant i.e. bbc

oh google maps works too.

anything else you want to know?

Very Happy Thumbs Up

Battery life?

Does it have any cool gadgets to add-on like the i phone has?

Reviews i've been reading have said it's slow and something about being nokia's first touch screen it's not quite upto scratch.

And i guess the main question would be:
Is it worth paying the extra for the i phone or will this do the same job?

Cheers for the reply mate Karma Thumbs Up

well its a 3G phone the i-phone isn't, nuff said Wink

it can be slow but no slower than any other, i can type faster than it can keep up with, my girlfs Tocco is the same. mates i-phones aren't like that but i put it down to the iphone being multi touch.

its a symbian phone so you get loads of apps, not many support the 5800 yet but its early.

camera is poor on mega pixels but good pics imo
https://public.fotki.com/ianfrost/my_cars/motorbikes-and-related/the-gsx-r750/rideouts/21-03-2009/

battery life is fine unless you hammer the wifi/gps, seems ok if using 3g.

So has anyone got any gadgets for it that they want to share? Very Happy

It's coming on thursday so i want a few bit's and bob's to put on straight away.

I looked online about the google maps; the general thought is that it's far too expensive to use like that on a pay&go mobile due to mb restrictions Question (i'll be on vodafone)

I have read a sh!t load of reviews about the phone and mostly sounds good, but i dont fully trust these "random" reviews as it could be anyone from nokia doing it Laughing which is why i'm asking questions on here (thought i'd add that before someone comes along posting the "google is your friend" pic Wink )

I got this phone a few days ago.

Hacked the firmware last night to allow me to install apps and i'm quite happy with it.

I went from an N95 to this, although I'm starting to love this phone I wish it had the 5mp camera the N95 instead of a 3.2.

Installed Garmin XT for use with the internal GPS.

Light Signal so that it flashes all 3 lower buttons instead of the small white one when you get a new message/missed call.

Phone Torch so the white flash stays on permanently for use as a torch (bright as fook!)

Marble Maze, a marble in a maze game that uses the phone's accelerometers, so when you tilt the phone you move the marble.

SmartMovie so I can watch all my films on there in full screen, currently have Wolverine, Crank 2 and a shed load of family guy.

and loads of other apps, loving it at the mo Thumbs Up

N30, I know this cheeky, but could you possibly direct me towards a Garmin XT with UK maps for a Nokia E71 please, it runs Symbian 60 I believe. Thumbs Up

Give me a PM.

there'a 1000's of more types of apps.

All apps need to be signed ( basically it adds your imei to the app so you can't share the .Sis files with other people)

Hacking the firmware means you never have to sign them. https://www.dotsis.com/mobile_phone/showthread.php?t=141350

or you can sign each app individually using this guide https://dailymobile.se/forum/index.php?topic=3101.0

I've never owned an iPhone.

the lack of decent camera puts me off buying one tbh.

This 5800 is faultless so far, hacked the firmware, debranded it, and now on V20 firmware to make things smoother, best part about the new Firmware Updates is that you don't lose fook all when you do it, so no need to backup, update, and restore, and you can now update firmware wirelessley via FOTA.

Got no faults with mine at the Moment, I tested Garmin XT today and it worked bloody well using just the internal GPS.

Cheers for the links N30 Thumbs Up

Couple of questions if you dont mind Very Happy

Is there a free version of the garmin? the sites above show the newest update for it but says the original prog has to be bought from garmin for £100?

Great hacking instructions there...looks easy.
Does this hack unlock the phone to any network? i suspect not,and if not do you know of any free way of doing it?

Local phone shop said he would do it for £25 quid so it's not the end of the world if i have to pay that, but free would be better so i thought i'd ask Laughing

Thanks
Dave

most phone shops will unlock your phone for £10.

Garmin Isn't free, but you can get a cracked version, all you need to do is hack your firmware so you can install it.

So where would i find this cracked version?
I looked back though all 10 pages of the ip-mart site (in the 5800 section) and still no luck finding it.

Phones coming today so i need some toys ready for it.I'm allready registered with the OPDA site to get my cert Laughing just awaiting my phones IMEI number to go ahead.

EDIT:
I know i can find garmin via torrents with keygen, but my anti-virus tends to go crazy when i download small .exe files...
I'm asking if you can direct me to a safe copy of it?

Also worth noting before anyone runs out and buys one on contract. The N97 isn't far off either and that looks utterly droolworthy Thumbs Up

don't you need to sign garmin then?

there is a few apps that don't need signing so no need to hack the firmware.
