You can always tell by how they try to spell things. Almost phonetically but with letters missing.

I felt tempted to ring him and ask if he wanted to do a deal on an ounce of bakelite! Then i realised that what he actually meant was back light! (i've been mounting too many metallographic samples in bakelite so it seemed obvious).

Even still, anybody who has some sort of learning difficulties would probably get a mate to check it over first, which is what my best mate does (didn't know that quite a few of my mates were actually mildly or pretty-damed dyslexic until i started trying to explain stuff to them... makes revision for exams rewarding when you can explain stuff so that they can understand). I reckon it's just a 17-18 year old kid that didn't bother attending his GCSE's, or a combination of both.
