Usually owned by young inexperienced riders, so look for crash damage, many don't get serviced again due to younger riders being poor.

Most come with a race can by now, it's a complete pain because in order to fit said race can you need to cut part of the collector pipe, so un tampered with headers are very difficult to come by.

Reg/rec failure is very common.

They always run hot. Check the rads are in good condition, many owners also wire in a switch to cut the fan in early to stop it over heating.

The NC30 has an 18 inch rear, it limits tyre choice, An NC35 wheel goes straight on and is 17 inch.

Beware of aftermarket paint schemes. 9 times out of 10 they have been crashed and rebuilt.

The V4 engine its self is pretty reliable to be honest, if looked after it'll keep going and going.

Most will have had the 112 mph limiter removed by now. Fitting an MPH converter to the import bikes deactivates it.

I don't think UK bikes had the limiter fitted.

Most of the NC30s are imports from Japan.

Graeme France does an uprated reg/rec for them, amoungst other things.

That's all I can think of at the moment. There are some knowledgeable chaps on 400greybike.cc or whatever it's called now.

Fully expect to have to refresh the suspenders as every last VFR and CBR400 I've ever sat on has been uselessly mushy.

Not directly owned one myself though, but given Hondas habit of over engineering stuff in that era, it's likely to boil down to how well it's been looked after. I'd suspect Valve checks on that V4 are going to be pricier than many owners could afford.
