Hi Guys. I have just found a small bright blue anodised speedo converter(I suspect) screwed into the back of the speedo. The speedo cable screws into the converter. Do these things work, are they MOT legal? If they do work I presume that although the speedo is on km/h that I should read as m/h? I then assume that the odo will also read in miles?

Thanks

Russ

Yes they do work, had one on my ZRX, the bike will pass the MOT with one fitted also if the odometer is driven by the cable it will also read in miles.

Hi Vincent, the bike is an 88 GPz400R. I have a rebuild going, in Show and Tell and one of the strange bits I found was this converter. Looks like a nifty gadget and looks very well made.

I have one on the Clubman to convert its km/h clocks to mph.* IIFC mine (anodised blue) was an Oxford product - I picked it up in Hein Gericke.

I am told they can shorten the life of your speedo cable but I have had no problems so far and the speedo with it fitted seems to be as accurate as any other speedo.

* My Clubman pre-dates the mph and Km/H speedometer requirement

It's only a couple of gears inside it to reduce the speed down to match MPH marks on the speedo. It puts no extra stress on the cable so wont shorten its life.

There is one used one on ebay, seems a bit high priced.

Found two now.

Search "kph to mph" for one and "speedo convertor" for the other.
