Hi guys

Has anyone ever taken their dog out on a motorbike?

*insert bitch/ugly bird jokes here*

Seriously...

I have a cocker spaniel and although common sense tells me it's a bad idea I'd like to be able to take her with me touring. I've looked up carriers online and there are plenty out there but I haven't read anything about other people's experiences.

I'm currently bikeless but hoping to correct that later this year and want to avoid having to use a sidecar to take Poppy along.

Thanks

Rick

I can't remember who (Lonewolf Thinking ? ) used to have a dog in a side car. There were a couple who've been on tv a few times with their little terrier in a custom made top box and doggles!

You're gonna have to make sure she's not a wriggler though! Shocked

I'm pretty confident she will move around if there's space but then so did most of the pillions I've taken in the past. I'd hardly be getting my knee down with her on the back, just casual riding around Wales and the Lake District.

Thanks

Bagster do a tank bag designed to be used as a pet carrier. Might be a bit small for your Spaniel though Confused

My friends Jim and Lorain take their little dog out in a converted top box. It is chained to the box on a short leash but seems to enjoy the ride.

I have a harness at the moment that has the lead rings on her back. I guess a similar thing with the rings under her chest that can be attached to the base of a top box would work Confused

She wont be able to turn around but could sit up to be in the air or lie down to hide.

On a low bike with plenty of weight I can't see her moving around being too much of an issue.

Thanks

Have over taken a bike towing a trailer which had a dog in it... as we went past it popped its head out the hole in the trailer and barked at us Laughing

Haha I'm using my laptop with the dog lying next to me - I went on that website with the sound on and she went apeshit.

Thanks for the link Smile

edit:: What an amazing dog. I bet many people on here would be jealous of the lifestyle it lead.

Well the trailer is, there are rules about the trailer but if you make your own it should fit the purpose. This one was being towed by a trike (although motorbikes can have trailers to) and the trailer looked basically like a dog kennel on wheels.

Wotcha.

Now why not make a dog kennel that is large enough to sleep in - and tow that behind a trike . . . . ?

I think it just might work Mr. Green

Seen it all-over in Italy. Often a dog sitting on the 'floor' bit of a scooter.

Pretty sure my instructor used to take his dog touring with him. Think it was in like a modified tank bag thing with a harness to keep him strapped in.

Hi

Seen a Honda Blackbird around here with a top box with a hole cut in the lid and the dog sat in it (and tied in).

When in Aus we saw a BMW K100 being ridden with a dog stood on the petrol tank. At motorway speeds the dog lay down and hooked its nose under the bars.

All the best

Keith

I saw a programme with Jeremy Irons; he takes his dog on his BMW in a wicker basket.

This is the one I remembered that sounds similar to Mr 1930 Ariel's friends. I loved Ajay in his sidecar and I'm very jealous of Lone-Wolf, as I'd have loved to take my old dog about with me on the bike, as he's definitely got the temperament for it, unlike my young dog, who would distract me far too much! Rolling Eyes

RickHolt - don't forget a girl needs to look good with shades and in the doggie world Doggles are essential! Laughing

Dog hates the bike and I mean hates. To the point of barking at me when i'm on it.

But loves the car, where he will run from the house and straight in to the car if the car door is open. Having to be physically removed from the car.

Rolling Eyes Just my luck Rolling Eyes , my best mates a cager.
