Riding with no end cans.

What are the reprecussions, legaly and mechanicaly?

Car mufflers occasionally rot and fall off, due to where they are obviously. So you could look at it from that angle legally, make it look like it could of fallen off and make sure your journey takes you in a direction you would be making after it fell off in the middle of nowhere, so home or to a garage.

Though on a GPZ I wouldn't, I've ridden both my FZR and my CB with no can. The FZR was in a residential area, early evening for about 3 miles at medium revs with no helmet, and it didnt seem that bad noisewise. The CB on the other hand was in the middle of nowhere, a deserted airfield with a few other bikers, also with no helmet for a few hundred yards. That was loud really loud, as some of the SW guys can attest.

so IL4 600 was quiet enough I could ride round houses without feeling particularly like a tit, 500 twin, was like the world was ending, even in the middle of nowhere.

Already been out on a ride like it, just concerned about the long term concequences(sp?) really, the cans are back on at the monent but the noise level and resulting grin factor is a serious temptation to leave them off long term.

I had my mate following me and he said he saw flames a few times but nothing major, if i tried to backfire it it just made a pittyfull pop and no flames or anything dramatic

Haven't run an end can for over 6 years now, even passed the MOTs like it as the CAT is e-marked and soaks up most of the noise.

Im seriously wanting to just rid of the cans, the thng is my pipe has no sort of CAT or anything its just strait pipes through to the end cans, any of you guys do anything airbox wise to richen up the mixture to compensate? If not has there been any of the side effects mentioned above i.e. holed pistons and fooked valves, not really in the position to go fucking up my bike, but if you guys have had no problems then ill most likely through caution out the window and do it anyway.

Not worried about the legal side so long as it doesnt involve points.

I think fuel-injected bikes suffer much less than carbed ones. Main thing is to wear earplugs coz tinitus is not nice at all.
