After passing my CBT last month, I've been looking for a cruiser type bike since. I've found, been to visit, and am about to make an offer on a 2000 Suzuki VL Intruder 125cc.

I'd been looking at Yamaha XV Viragos, Gilera Cougars and Suzuki Marauders too with little success. The Intruder is listed at £1200, it's only done 6000 miles. Pic here: https://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/imgser-uk/servlet/media?id=901822311

I'm 23 and 6'4" tall, and I'm worried that I might be a bit too tall for this bike but won't be able to test ride it due to not having insurance. I'm taking my mum's boyfriend with me who's been riding for the last couple of years, and he's going to bring it home for me.

Also, having not really bought anything of any considerably value ever, I'm unsure of etiquette when it comes to haggling. I'd ideally not like to spend more than £1000, would offering £900 be considered cheeky/rude considering it's only 75% of what he's asking for?

Many thanks in anticipation!

Don't be afraid to haggle! It's all part of the game. You might feel slightly uncomfortable offering less at the time (I'm not a natrual haggler either) but when you ride it away with an extra couple of hundred on your hip, that feeling takes away any worries about cheekiness, trust me Smile

Just find as many things wrong with it as you can. look over it as if you'd already bought it, and are looking for negative things. A scratch here, something looks a little worn there, little noisy when revving, etc.....ask about history, previous mot docs, that sort of thing....and the more things little or large that you can find wrong with it means the buyer (unless he's a bit of a dealer) will start to think the price in his head just *might* be a bit too much, and will be more willing to come down.

Even if you've definitely decided it is THE ONE, don't show it, and be prepared to walk back to your car if he doesn't accept your offer. If he doesn't call you back as you walk away, then he probably isn't going to move on the price, so it's up to you to decide whether to keep walking, or turn around and say ok, ok, you'll go to x amount for it. And there's no shame in that.

But the important thing is, don't ever be afraid to haggle!

You're right, it just feels so uncomfortable for me - not a natural either!

Nothing to lose though I suppose, I'll have to give it a shot on sunday.

Cheers for the advice though!
