hi all,
when out on the bike today a motorcyclist comeing towards me nodded as we all do but from some distance away how ever as we got closer he then tilted his head to the right and back up straight again.
layout of the road
road was single lane carriage way 30mph with hatched area in the middle approximately a meter wide with broken lines. the traffic was qued in front of me and the same on his side of the road due to a lorry turing in front of us. i entered the hatchings to pass the long que of traffic on my side. He was doing the same and as soon as i saw him i entered myside of the road between two cars and he did the same. the traffic then started moving at this point he nodded we were still approximaely 60-70 meters from each other as we got closer he looked at me and tilted his head to his right and back up again then we passed and carried on our ways. i wondered if my indicator was going but it wasnt.

is his action a recognised signal towards me that i should have known what it meant

It's a nod.

I must have passed about 15 bikes today, and the only one who returned my nod was a bloke on a Vespa. Miserable bastards. I did get a wave from a bloke in a Morgan 3 wheeler when I gave him a thumbs up, though.

I nodded to a bloke on a Bandit 600 S yesterday.

He nodded back, but I detected a slight confusion.....I was pedalling my cyclocross bike and just instinctively nodded.

I must admit that I didn't nod to every biker in Wales on Saturday -my head would have fallen off.....

I always do a head tilt nod - with black leathers and lid, a normal nod isn't that noticable from straight ahead. A head tilt is more obvious.

Some little ballbag in my village on an RS50 never returns my nods. Him and his little 'ped buddy always hooning up and down the streets. Never seem to leave the 30mph zones though, and my village is small Laughing
On the other hand I nodded to an ambulance motorcycle dude the other day, and he wasn't even on his bike Laughing He nodded back though so it's cool. Two Police bikes in a row nodded to me in a zone where everyone speeds and I was tired so was doing the limit for once Embarassed
What's with people not nodding at learners by the way? When I got my L's off I got about twice the concentration of nods on the 10 miles home as I did in 1500 miles of learning. NODDING AT LEARNERS ENCOURAGES THEM TO EMBRACE THE BIKING CULTURE.
I feel hurt when people don't nod back

The same with me, i never got nodded when i was a learner. But now know why. I try and change it nodding to learners, but all i get it a fucking evil stare, like they want to kill me. Chav Scum. But most of the women on the 125 scoots nod back to me. Very Happy

Hehe, I have the same happening to me quite a lot, but I'm on L plates.
On my way to work, I know a few bikers that I see almost every day and still, when I nod at them, they just stare at me, then turn their head back.

I keep on nodding as for some reason I always liked the idea of 'bikers greeting each other'. Also one of the commuters on a scooter, after a few weeks of confusion started returning my nods and since then, every time I see him, he's the first to nod. Mr. Green

Seems we live in a nodding dog culture!

I'm just afraid all the 'Chav scum' that are currently on 50cc/125cc gopeds whom don't nod will just grow up and in 20 years will all be on pocket rockets and still not nodding! Laughing

The chav scum as you so eloquently call them will be in corsas emblazoned with all the best halfords has to offer before then and lost to the world of cars forever.

On a serious note i cant think of any chav types on big bikes. Maybe thats just around here.

I always nod at fellow bikers, because im a friendly lad!, if they dont nod back i think "you miserable bastard get back in your car". If they are quite far away, say on the other side of a carrageway i actually wave like "helloooo" or stick up my thumb, i think people like that a bit more..as im making a big fuckin effort for them to notice im saying hi lol.

Theres a guy that does vlogging, Mordeth13..not sure if anyones seen his vids. Anyway he did one on "Biker waves", its quite funny..and the guy is hilarious ive watched most of his vlogs, what a legend.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvXZe9IFJQQ

Anyway he did this other video where he rode past these 2 guys on cruisers, he waved (actually waved) and they ignored him, so he turned around passed them, turned around again to ride back past them and waved like a wild idiot to try and get a response..was hilarious.

Anyway im ranting..
