Hi all

I've been riding a trusty ER-5 for a few years now. As much as I love it I do a lot of motorway journeys where I sometimes would like that little bit of extra ommph.

I've been looking at the FZ6 Fazer S2, which a few people have pointed out to me - Plus I love the look of it.

I ride all year around, so how well would the Fazer hold up to this? I've found the ER-5 to be easy in the winter.

Any other bikes I should consider around 600cc? I don't think I need any more power than that.

Cheers

You might love it at first, but most people I know who own an S2 begin to wish they had the mk1. Apparently the S2 is too revvy.

I would never buy one, but then I do own the best version - a good old mk1 Very Happy

I've got an FZ6 and i've never thought it was too revvy. That seems to me to be a bullshit bike journalist thing. Ok it is a bit breathless if your trying to go quick with a passenger, but in other situations if you ride it hard it's a little demon. I bought mine because i wanted something without a fairing and with normal handlebars but with good performance,so i enjoy it. Why is the Hornet not considered revvy? They both make the same peak torque at the same revs.

I've got an FZ6 Fazer but not the S2 or the Mk1. The 04-06 version which is almost the same as the S2. I can't comment on the engine as mine is restricted.
Other than that it is comfortable for long rides, quiet when cruising at motorway speeds and seems to be fuel economical. I get about 55mpg using Super Unleaded (about 50mpg using standard). These figures would be attainable normally as the bike is only limited by the throttle rather than any major changes to the engine.
The handling also seems decent (although I only have a YBR125 to compare it to) and the brakes are amazing. The bike lives well with a top box with a lot of weight in.
One of the plus points for me is the underseat exhaust as I have to squeeze mine through a narrow door into the garage so having no exhaust at the side is very helpful.

Had one as my first ‘big bike’. Got a slagging from the press as didn’t have the torgue of the old fazer. But quite frankly when revved would go pretty well, and the de-tuned R6 engine is pretty bomb-proof. As result are great value. Light, economical, great upright riding position (if that’s your thing – at the time it was for me) and looks good. Good ground clearance if want to try to get knee down and be a bit sportu. I added a touring windscreen and found it was great to head down through France with soft luggage so pretty versatile. Only downside was battery was v difficult to get to; had to remove the tank. I had an alarm on and was constantly paranoid that I’d kill the batter and have to remove the tank to charge the b@stard. Otherwise a great little bike.

I have the 04 fz6 and they are amazing bikes mine never let me down till the day i was knocked off. So much fun around town or out on twisties, easy to knee down on and good fun to wheelie Very Happy Mine was ridden all year round never had any problems with it and it handled the odd 200 mile motorway trip every now and then fine.

Thanks very much everyone - great replies Smile

Not worried too much about it being revvy, sure it's going to be better than my little ER-5 anyway Smile

The only thing which concerns me is that a few people have mentioned corrosion (not on here) - given that this will be used through Winter, is it a serious issue?

Cheers all Smile

I think its overegged TBH , its not like you can leave any bike untreated and uncleaned over winter but Kitty's fazer has stood the test of time and an enourmous number of miles quite well.

Just buy a can of FS365 and rinse after each winter ride.

get it ACF 50 treated; great anti corrosion stuff and much better than the scotoiler 365 stuff as not water soluble so stays on longer.

The ER5 engine will be like a tractor in comparison.

Got a FZ6 fazer as well on an 04 plate. Love it. Had it since 2006 and not planning to change it yet. Even better it cost less than £90 to insure this year as well and that was fully comp!

Cheers
