After mentioning this in another thread and being asked for details, I thought I would stick a mention of it here in case more people were interested.

A bloke on the westmidsriders site is selling ground anchors/chains for a decent price. It's probably best if I stick his post down.

I have noted with the continued problems of bike theft, both insurance companies and security product suppliers have increased costs to us end user's. I have been looking round for products to secure my bike as my friend had his taken last weekend with locks and anchor!! But I'm not paying the silly prices of ground anchors and expensive chains which most of the time can be broken within minutes or even seconds! So after some thinking I have found some alternative affordable security.

Although not aimed at bike security these products are designed for heavy industrial use and from what I have observed come in at much reduced rates for much higher spec's, as they are designed for heavy industrial and trade use.

First of all the ground anchor... Galvanised, easliy removeable when not in use, and seriously strong - can withstand around 4tonnes of force and cannot be cut without the use of some proffesional cutting gear which would still take some time. And the cost? around £20 for both parts!!! And the chain? Soft plastic coated, galvanised bolt cropper proof links and these are around £30. I've just looked at some other bike chains and nothing anywhere near this cost are bolt cropper proof. I've got a feeling someone is taking us for a ride!?

If you want some serious alternative security let me know!!

The whole thread is available here if you want to read it;

One of the lads on the site has had one fitted and seems quite happy his comments are near the bottom of the thread.

There are also some pics of one he tried for a test here;

I'm not trying to spam, I don't personally know the bloke so there's nothing in it for me. I just thought that the price seemed too good to pass up. I've recently been looking to buy a new lock and ground anchor and the prices aren't funny.

His email address is davidsmall.100@blueyonder.co.uk if anyone is interested.

Here's a copy of the email I recieved about prices;

Quote:
We are waiting for some new chains which I do believe are the same as another brand which got Ride recommended.

At the moment the Anchor for a solid concrete base install is £20, for soil install it is £24.

Sold Secure Certified bolt cropper proof, sleeved Chain 1.5mtr £34. Brass 70mm drill and bolt cropper resistant padlock £12.

We can install either type of Anchor. Fitting incl installation materials is usually £35 plus travel.

If you can hold on for another day and use the above prices as a ball point figure I will contact you with costs of new chains.

Thanks again.

Dave.

I have had a further email regarding these anchors and chains with prices on insurance recognized security.

It's here for anyone that's interested.

Hello Dave, just to follow on from the last e-mail. We can now source the padlock quoted before for £9 instead of £12.
Our new heavy duty chain and padlock which is Sold Secure silver and gold certified, aswell as Thatcham approved is priced at £47 and the padlock is £26, the heavy duty set has also recieved a Ride recomendation. Both sets will qualify for an insurance discount.

I've asked if they have any pictures or more details as I like pics! Wink

Edit - Here's the link to his website, it's still being built as you might well tell. https://www.alternativesecurity.org.uk/
