Blocking stolen/chipped consoles

Me and a mate at work were having a chat about this after some dodgy geezer tried to flog us a 'new' xbox 360 for £50. Clearly half inched.

We presumed that if a stolen console is reported stolen does this filter down to the manufacturer and do they block/disable it if you try and go on xbox live etc like they do with stolen mobiles?

Not that im buying a robbed xbox, just to settle an argument as i reckon that the above happens and my mate doesnt.

If you have the serial then you could report it to MS and see where it goes from there.

BUT, not everybody goes on Xbox live, some will just use it as a standard consoleto play games on.

I'd have bought it immediately.

If it's stolen it is likely to work, when it comes to electronics.
