When was yours?

I had mine this morning, I have lucid dreams pretty much every night, and last night it was a nightmare, but that wasn't the worst part, I was in the nightmare and riding it out as I do, and then suddenly I woke up, saw the Grim Reaper stood 9ft tall in the corner, saw a maniac with a knife next to me and felt a presence to my left, and a rabid dog infront, and they were all screaming loudly.

What makes it worse is it was so spontaneous, like in a film when a killer jumps out, it went from a dream to awake like BOOM! and I couldn't move or shout or do anything but look forward, as I was experiencing sleep paralysis, it lasted for what seemed like forever, I was fixing my eyes on the dog as it seemed to get closer when I didn't look at it and I tried to scream, eventually my throat opened and I could get slight whispers out but it was so surreal and frightening, but totally explainable, I don't exactly know how my brain visualised those things but they all went off what is in my room, the hood of the Reaper was my TV up on a cupboard and the dog the stuff cluttered on my PC desk. As I fell asleep again I seemed to just get the paralysis state, I saw moving images on the TV as if it was on (it was Scrubs that was on) and felt someone laid next to me moving and talking in my ear in J.D's voice for some reason Confused I snapped myself out of it again and thought what the deuce?

My questions to you are, what has been your most frightening moment, and how the f*ck do I stop myself getting sleep paralysis again, will 5-HTPs work? Cos I really don't like it! Cheers!

As a side note, I frequently get sleep paralysis just not this scary, and the past two times (both this week) I have woken up and my arm has been totally dead, maybe this is why my body woke me up but seemed to fail?

EDIT: The Reaper was swinging a scythe at me and the weirdo with the knife was jabbing it at me Sad

It is MDMA that is said to cause sleep paralysis, and I haven't had that or any other drugs in a very long time. I think my ability to lucid dream or at least dream every night has something to do with drugs too. Hence me not taking them as much now!

I did ask a question by the way!

Most frightening moment? Suffering a number of vasospasms and losing the use of my left side.

Being told I had to have a kidney stent put in and sort of knowing the way in they wanted to use, but still having to ask.

I was like that bloke in Jaws when he first sees the shark and the background flys up behind him.

Still once I'd stopped crying and hugging the bed I calmed down a bit.

Bollocks, that's just old age setting in, we like to call them Senior Moments.

If Shaggy had said that the vasospasms were induced by eating a whole tube of Cheese 'n Chive flavoured Pringles and a Rip Roarin' Raspberry flavour Slush Puppy just before bedtime and he lost the use of his left side after brushing it against The Grim Reaper who was cunningly disguised as his bedroom wardrobe when he was on the way to the bog in the early hours to vacate his Midnight Feast then he might be in with a shout of a podium position.

(Sorry Shaggy, close but no cigar Wink )

Bad acid trip.

And to anyone who thinks it's a bit gay that the most frightening experience of my life didn't actually happen, take a bad trip.

Mine's bike related. Copied and pasted after I finally found it using the search function - Still gives me the willy's when I think about it...

Coming out of Minehead on the A39 there's a fantastically wide road that screams 'give it the beans'. At some point the road rises to a crest and to an adverse camber left bend, as you crank the bike over to take the bend the road falls away from you and goes down a hill.

I'd just met up with a few friends for weekend of biking around Devon and Cornwall and we were all on a high as we blasted up the road - unfortunately for me as I approached the summit of the hill and leant it over I saw a dead badger right in my line. I was doing approximately 70mph as I attempted to pick the bike up and alter my line, I ran wide over the crest of the hill and ended up on the other side of the road - if anything had been coming in the opposite direction I'd have met it head on and to put it bluntly would've been dog meat.

Of course I've had close scrapes before as all bikers do but that is the ONLY one that revisits me in my dreams and wakes me up in a cold sweat at night.

Sucking an Opal Fruit:
Jumped off the back of my work van .... sweety jammed in my throat and I couldnt breath and spent the next minute or so getting no air and eventually half passing out.
That was my most scary time ... I honestly thought I was dying.

Luckily my mate Philo punched me in the chest and out it came ... it is still a bone of contention that he hit me again after the sweet had popped out ! Eh?

Riding a racehorse up in Newmarket and not being able to stop, at all, it was terrifying, looking for places to throw myself onto the floor, by the time I managed to slow even a bit I was completely nackered, when I finally stopped I had a blood blister on my thumb from how hard I had pulled, and I got off and just sat on the floor, sounds daft, but my god they go quick.

Only one l can think of recently is my previous supervisor moving his wrist to within 5mm of one phase of three 415v 1000 Amp busbars while testing the furthest back bar, had to quietly and slowly move away from him as one slight movement and the fu*king idiot would of blown his arm off and flash burnt the both of us.

Coming down the A519 on the GSXR600, I came to a straight and there was about 6 cars following a tractor going stupidly slowly so I swung onto the wrong side of the road and nailed it.

I was doing about 120 as I was just coming to the back of the queue when suddenly a guy in a landrover at the back was hanging out of his window and waving his arms, by the time I realised what he meant I was fast approaching the tractor that was now turning right.

I literally just scraped past at about 120 squeezed up right by the kerb, I have never ever been so relieved in my life, I had to pull over after because I was shaking and couldn't believe I'd been so stupid.

Actually, can I change my mind, just remembered when my son was sitting on my lap in Leigh Delamere services, pretending to drive, when he sort of ....exploded.

No nappy, he was mid potty training, carried him by holding just one of his fingers as far from me as possible, across miles of parking spaces, into the ladies (I was past caring if I got stared at) and into the baby changing bit.

Maybe not frightening in the OP's sense of the word, but genuinely humbling none the less.

About a year and a bit ago (I was 22) I found a lump on one of my balls - I check them fairly regularly as being in the healthcare sector we get this sort of thing drilled into us all the time, however nothing quite prepares you for what you feel like when you find one! Proper sick to the stomach feeling. For some bizzare reason I decided not to do anything about it at that point, thinking it would go away or something, but it didn't. I must have waited about a week before I called the GP, but in that week I pretty much got FA sleep cause I couldn't stop thinking about what it could be - I was a total wreck in the waiting room of the surgery! After being examined by the GP I was sent for an Ultrasound. Turns out it was just a cyst which was obviously a major relief, but waiting for the results wasn't the most fun time either.

I appreciate that in hindsight I may have over-reacted slightly, and I am fully aware that there are people on here who have had to go through much worse in terms of being diagnosed with/living with cancers and other things, but it did hammer home to me the importance of being acutely aware of what's going on with everything in your body! As with everything like this, the quicker you catch something the better chance of it being treated successfully.

Bike related, there was my incident in Greece on a scooter where I came round a bend too quickly going into the other lane only to find a car a couple of meters in front of me - slammed on the anchors, scoot slipped away from me and luckily I slid away from the car (scoot was written off on car's bonnet). Having said that, I didn't have time to be frightened at the point of crash - too much adrenaline! Was only after when I started to think in minute details (like if I had been 1s earlier and not been able to brake) that I started to realise I had been lucky!

Had similar, but a bit slower in a van. Was over a junction at the time too, so didn't want to pull straight in - no blind spot mirror on this van either, so wasn't sure what was next to me.

Had similar to silky with a doughnut at work... managed to get it out of my throat, then, err, took another too big bite and repeated the turning a funny colour Embarassed. Apparently the first time I did actually start to go a rather strange colour.

On the dreams thing - one time I had a dream I was on a train, the train crashed and I died. Luckily I woke up and realised that there was no crash, was actually just on a train. Then the train *did* crash. Then I woke up again and was in some underwater-world. I started getting annoyed at this point as I kinda worked out it was a dream, but couldn't get myself out of it. Finally managed to get myself out of it back to reality in my bedroom.

Another one, we were lining up to get tickets to get into the pub - woke with a start (this pub doesn't have tickets, even on new-years) in my room to see a massive (think that picture of some US grunt holding one) spider above my bed. I grabbed a pillow and knocked it away... then it swung back. At this point I woke up and realised that previously it obviously wasn't 'right' as I could actually see from daylight in my room and I have two blackout blinds.

Back to real life, the after-effects of the car accident I was in were pretty nasty.
The one time I've really considered very imminent possible death was the racing accident at Lydden - at that point in time I really wasn't sure I'd live more than a few seconds more - a bit concerning.

Less so, but when I went for an operation and they couldn't find my details, then quietly said "Err, I'm afraid you've got MRSA, we can't operate on you" made my heart rate go up a bit. From the section I was re-directed to I soon found out it wasn't anything big, but as all I knew was newspaper scare-stories about people dyeing, I did wonder.
I got my own back on the world by generally scaring similarly ignorant people - was supposed to have the afternoon of work, so amused myself by watching people back away as I replied "oh, I've got MRSA!" when they asked why I was back in work Very Happy.
