Three wheels on my wagon..

This doesn't qualify for the scariest moment ever, so I didn't post it there. It was an interesting experience today none the less.

Pulling up to a roundabout on a reasonably busy bypass doing a fair whack, going down the gears suddenly feels like there is no clutch and thus no engine braking, and service brakes are largely inneffective.

Try to engage a few more gears... gearbox and clutch seem to be working but not transferring it to the wheels.

Cursory glance in the mirror reveals...
The mudguard should really line up better with the wheels than this..

By some bizarre stroke of luck the roundabout was clear, I was able to coast onto it, take the first exit, and locate a farm track around 250 yards down the road in precisely the right place that my momentum would run out.

I don't care to estimate how much further it might have taken me before it fell off.

Further investigation later in the day revealed that hub nut had come undone . Allowing both wheels and the brake drum to make a break for freedom. Bearings collapsed, brake cylinder shagged, axle/hub nut threads shagged, halfshaft slightly bent, but probably a damn sight cheaper than having lost the undercarriage altogether

All the time I waste checking wheel nuts.

You don't have a great deal of luck with vehicles.
Was it you that had a wheel come off a van a while back too, or was that someone else?

Did the seats wipe clean?

I was once in a mate's Renault Clio when we were overtaken by a rear wheel which had sheered off due to overtightened wheel nuts. Was a moment of purest comedy.
