...absolutely shitting it (apologies for the description - but take my word for it, it's pretty accurate!). EVERY time we came to a red light I didn't stop I just turned right - My twisted logic was that I didn't want to be a sitting target.

...as I crossed the street to get the shot I looked up the Road and saw 5 or 6 black blokes in the usual garb (vests 'n baggy jeans) hanging out on a corner and thought nothing of it. As I was about to take the photo I saw them walking towards me and then heard a screech of tyres and a Police Car pulled out of nowhere, the car pulled up next to me and a bloke in Aviators and a leather jacket adorned with the biggest, shiniest Police Badge I've EVER seen outside of Toys R Us looked up from the drivers side and said 'What are you doing Boy?' (bear in mind that I'm 39!), 'Taking a photo of Stax' I replied. 'Take your photo and get to the other side of the street' was his curt response and he closed the window and watched me all the way back to the other side where my missus was waiting, mouth and eyes wide open!

I did have another brush with Thug Life (I like to think of them as my Ghetto Homey's Wink

) in Atlanta but I won't bore you with that 'un Smile

This is something that western people don't seem able to grasp, that when somebody's life is so deprived that the person feels even losing his life is no big deal, that person becomes incredibly dangerous if his moral structure is utterly defunct too.

Us cosy westerners just assume that everyone else values his own life as the be-all and end-all and won't put it on the line.

It's also what makes the difference between a crack (elite) military unit and an average one. And it's why even the pigs fear gangs in the USA.

Never assume the law will protect you. Even in the UK there are places where people feel they have absolutely nothing to lose, and they will fuck you up for a fiver, and not care a toss if they get killed doing it.

The ghetto in the town I'm in is fucking sketchy not compton bad but not good either.

Kids will run up to your vehicle and offer you drugs then take your money run off to a house and return.

No one there has a fear of the cops.

That scene out of training day where the one guy is on the roof watching for people is true they actually had a guy doing that here.

I went to this one street which is nothing but abandoned houses to take pics and saw people walking down the street being loud so I fucked off sharpish.

Hell a few months ago a few people were killed in a shoot out there.
