thanks,
it has all the mod cons,

cruise control, (well a non return throttle)
gear indicator, (litrally a piece of metal on the lever to show where it's stopped)
loud pipes, (cause there wan't any of theis noise control malarky when it was built)
Edit: forgot the "scotoiler" (oil breather pipe is directly over the chain)

and she'll still hit an indicated 85 (chin on tank feet on pillon pegs)

Laughing

was riding tonight, went to change up a gear and when i did i lost power to the rear wheel, pulled to the side of the road and killed the engine.
looked it over and couldn't see anything wrong (had been worried the sump had come out or something).
tried to restart but gear indicator was stuck at 2/3, with no resistance to rolling backwards.
eventually got it indicating neutral but it wouldn't start and i had to get recovery Thumbs Down

any suggestions? or can someone suggest somebody local to leeds who whould be able to diagnose/fix?

well, having had the local NOC'ers look it over it appears it is not a gearbox problem, but was most likely due to clutch overheating.

also found out what i thought was choke off (and was having to add choke to get it to run) was actually choke on Embarassed though i'm blaming my stepdad for that 'un

now have more jobs for the bank holiday weekend including;

moving the gearbox backwards,
refilling the gearbox oil and primary chain oil
buy a new clutch cable and fuel line
remove and clean gunk oil tank

and give it a shake-down run and find the next load of issues Laughing
will post pictures as i do the work. Thumbs Up

cheers ANT132,

i actually met the guy who built it in 1968, and found out it isn't a 500, the frame is from a 88 (500), the engine casing is a 99 (600cc) with an SS crank and a 650ss top end (so is still a 600 cause of the crank)

Nice pics!

Where did you get that flying suit btw? I assume it's not protective mind, but it looks flippin' cool - wouldn't mind one for the Enfield!

Oh and are the Avon Speedmasters you're running? They can really make for some 'interesting' cornering!

Cheers,
Stu

aye those are speedmaster MKII, i replaced the originals (well 69 ish) this summer and found it a lot better as it had a 4.00 tyre instead of a 3.50 which was what i put on there.

as for handling for all the epic lean angle you see in the pics i have about 1mm of chicken strip left Laughing

the flight suit was my stepdads, and i wear it over my leathers so i can get away with a one piece on a old bike, (plus this time it meant i didn't have to worry about my wallet etc while i was on track as they were on me Laughing ) if you want one i've found this place (https://www.the-outdoor.co.uk/ishop/853/shopscr258.html) but expect gentle ribbing from people as to where you've parked the tornado.

aye keith it was good to see so many rotaries including 3-5 (of the 30 built) of the F1 sports, there where quite a few race rotaries too
