Hey all, so i've been looking around this forum since i passed my CBT and got my Honda CG125, reading and learning all the time. Now my time has come to register and ask something i haven't come across yet.

I bought the bike of ebay for £700 and think i have myself a bargain, i had a price in my head of 1200 that i was willing to pay for it, as it's the same bike i took my CBT on and knew it's a trusty bike and performed the way i want it to.

But there are a few bits on the underside of the bike that are really quite.. rusty. There are 2 bars about 1/2 meter long each that go from the frame to the drum brake on the back. I wanted to start myself and see what i could do so I took the wheel off, took the bars out, sanded, filed and then spray paintd them black. I think i done a good job. See the picture and tell me what you think.

But now i want to take the stand off and do the same with that. Problem is, how do i keep the bike upright while there is no stand?. I read somewhere and saw pictures that vinegar is a really good rust cleaner, so i would like to leave the stand in the vinegar overnight. Any tips on how to leave the bike supported without a stand?. Also the underside of the chrome exhaust is badly rusted. And my main worry, is the rear wheel spokes which are just awfull... Advice?

Here are a few pictures, to make the picture bigger.

The Drum Brake Bar (After i cleaned n sprayed it)

And finally, should i spray these black?. Or how can i make 'em super shiney?

I know that a bath of Coca-Cola (not the diet/zero kind) is good alternative at eating through rust over night! wash it clean afterwards...

Also, the rear pedal metal part itself you could use engine cleaner to get rid of that dried in dirt & oil.

Rear paddock stand or if you are able to stabilise the bike by ropes/straps and sit it on pieces of wooden sleepers.

Autosol is good for Chrome and use the cheap tesco dish cloth (as it's rough) and wrap once the cloth around the exhaust, pull back &forth end to end the cloth with some autosol and it will clean up nicely! Either that attach a buffy type ball to your drill and buff it away with some autosol.

The spokes you may have to (some others may have a better suggestion) use a brillo pad or something similar to remove the rough surface and finish off with some metallic matching paint

Another option is a car jack and axle stands.

Or a milk bottle crate

Or breeze blocks.

Thanks for the reply guys, I'm going to rest it and tie it to the fence.

But right now i took the rear fork (If thats what its called) off and it's currently sitting in a bucket of vinegar, ready to be scrubbed clean and repainted. While i was doing that i noticed the underside of the exhaust is totally rusted into the chrome, and same goes for a few patches on the rear suspension.

Whats the best way to get rid of this rust? As it's on the chrome i'm not sure what to use, as i dont want to ruin it even more. Is this beyond repair? Shall i just buy a new exhaust? And if i do buy an exhaust, will i feel any difference when riding the bike?

Thanks again

~Stephen
