Bandits and criminals through the ages have worn things over their faces for two reasons. 1. its impossible to indentify someone and 2. it's intimidating.
A female student in Turkey told me that there is a certain type of person who will wear the full get up, and its usually making a statement or they have been ordered to by their muslim partner. Its not nesseccesary.
The shop owners had pepper spray in their faces and jewellery stolen, in my opinion its only fair to say...

"FUCK YOUR FAITH, SHOW ME YOUR FACE"

If I can't buy petrol with my face covered I wouldn't expect a jewellers to put up with it. Fuck em. Show your face or don't shop there.

"It's like when there were signs saying no blacks."

No it's not, black people don't choose to be black, people choose to wear burqas.

By that argument, is it not prejudice against shop workers to have to serve people who wear niqabs etc; both are voluntary activities. In fact, I would say being able to earn a living in safety takes precedence over some body else's religious statement.

That wee girl is talking nonsense.

The bit I did find strange though,

They guys must have been good at impersonations. Laughing

In tomorrow's news there'll be a headline along the lines of...

Quote:
Niqab two caught wearing stolen gold in Glasgow cabaret bar.

Which is why they were so convincing...

Without racial prejudice I find it extremely odd that is fundamentally socially unacceptable to walk around in a balaclava, yet a blind eye can be turned to the Nijab.

I can't help but try to stare out a woman wearing one. Embarassed

We have had cases at my work where the person coming for the interview (and being succesful) is not the same person that turns up for work on the start date Smile

Only way it was questioned once was because someone noticed the eye colour was different.

I don't know. Where do you draw the line?

I would find it uncomfortable to work with someone who's face was covered all the time. It might be acceptable in their own culture, but here, I feel most communication is done with facial expressions so isn't compatible.

If I was to go to a 'Muslim' country, with my girlfriend, or if I was a girl myself, I wouldn't be walking around wearing a skimpy bikini, as it goes against their laws and local practices.

Likewise, I wouldn't moan when the calling for morning prayer wakes me up early in the morning - I fully expect that becuase that's where I am.

If I go to Spain, I full well expect not to be able to go in any shops etc during Siesta....but I just get on with what's happening in the country, I don't go knocking on shop doors, demanding I'm let in, becuase 'The shops are open at this time in England!'. It's the local ways of life, if I don't like them, I don't go there.

Bikers aren't allowed to wear helmets at petrol garages, into shops etc...

Nudists can't walk around nude everywhere...

But most people accept that, the headscarf issue is the same..

About time is all I can say.

It is an utter farce that they're allowed at all really.

It's not even religion, its tradition.

whenever i see one of them in the full black gear i always think they're gonna jump in the air and flykick me ninja style.....

anyway i wouldnt expect to be let into any place with my helmet on, its just manners. i keep the helmet on when filling up the bike but take it off as i walk into the station. they have no real reason to cover it up because in all honesty i doubt there hot at all so doubt anyone will eye them up.

sadly at my work i'd probobly get sacked for refusing to serve someone with a ninja outfit on

seing as im scottish, if i go over to their country and get shitfaced, vommit over myself, run through the streets naked and pass out on holy ground after defiling a monument would i get away with it? i mean its my culture.....

sadly stoning people to death is still happening over in the middle east. i love how the people there claim that the west is corrupt, evil and full of sinners yet they feel perfectly happy stoning a girl to death for having a boyfriend of another faith.

admitidly the west did awful things in the name of religeon such as war, torture, witch burnings, child molesting etc. we got over this crap 100's of years ago, well except child molesting.

in my work (pizza hut) i often get asian customers and they always ask if our meat is halal as they want their animals drowned in their own blood, to me this just seems cruel and somewhat evil.

i know many will call me racist, ignorant etc but islam is a disgusting religeon that is intolorent of other beleifs. granted the majority of the followers are alright but they still pester you with their rituals and superstitions and expect you to go out of your way to accomodate them when they'd do no such thing for you in their country.

People that cover their faces freak me out in general, chavs with scarf's or muslins with slits to look out. I find it hard to trust when I cant see facial expressions or even hear what they are saying under that cloth. I know its another religions tradition but I don't have to like it.

That's just human nature, a large part of communication is non verbal, so if you cant see someones facial expressions its kind of hard to read their emotions and develop trust.
