Holy f*ck! Thats the kind of thing that puts me off a trackday. Most seemed to be going at the same/simlar pace then that tool seemed to be going way too hot before he realised it. Nice 'slamming' of the anchors too. I know accidents and incidents are all a part of racing/trackdays but the cock was going way too fast for his own good which is inexcuseable. Feel sorry for the victim! I know if that happened to me it would be a long long time before id be back on a track, probably even a bike!

Its possible that it was mechanical failure (throttle jammed open) ... but it was probably just adrenalin meaning he over-egged it!! Sad

If you read one of the comments its funny though ....

"77 was going so fast, he even got taken out by a bike that was sliding along the track ... thats some skillz #72" (or summin to that effect!! Very Happy)

Do you go on 'rideouts'?

You could just as easily take someone out (or be taken out) there ... and I bet you don't give it a second thought!! Wink

I think the insurance issue is what scares people about crashing on track. My insurance dont, and wont cover me for riding on the track. So if I do a track day and bin it, Then I wont be on another bike for a while due to money.

If somebody takes me out on track, Where would I stand getting the bike fixed, Especially if they arent insured for track riding either.

I don't think even someone with track insurance is insured 3rd party!! Rolling Eyes

If someone takes you out then it is down to YOU to sort your own bike ... its just the name of the game ...

You have to accept it might happen, but its no different to only having 3rd party insurance on the road and you throwing it in a ditch ... or coming off on someones diesel/gravel/poo ...

You know when yo take out 3rd party that your bike in these situations is YOUR problem ... you accept that as a risk you are prepared to take ...

Theres a much bigger chance of you crashing rather than someone crashing into you, especially on a trackday.

But I reckon if you have enough proof (pics or vids or eyewitnesses etc) that say it was not your fault and someone hit you, then you could probably still take said person to court for the damages.

Sure, makes sense sat on your sofa ... but would you instantly think that when it suddenly happens and you are racing towards a bend/another dude at a rate of knots??? .... perhaps ... or perhaps you would panic and grab a handful of front as a instinctive reaction to needing to slow down? Thinking

+1

Morons have already tried suing trackday organisers. Who would have thought that taking your bike on a racetrack might be dangerous! Brick Wall

No, not at all, I've done 5 trackdays and never fallen off, ok I pus my limits a lot more on track but you're also in a safe environment with no oncoming traffic or grids etc about. You're much more likely to go down on the road due to outside factors. If you crash on a trackday, 90% of the time it's because you messed up.

A really good track day company closed down because some moron stacked it then tried to take the organiser to court! If you prep your bike properly then the average track crash won't cost you much at all.

I've only just started getting into trackdays but I think you've got to think of the worst case scenario, ie a wrecked bike and gear and decide if you could deal with that.
I couldn't afford to lose 8k so wouldn't dream of taking a brand new sports bike and riding it flat out round a track with no insurance. Where as my bikes only worth £800ish which although I'd be pissed to lose that much, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

The thought of getting injured and being off work unpaid does worry me a little though.

I dont mean 'suing' the track organiser but the individual involved in your accident. I am not saying I condone it but at the end of the day if you're wiped out by some idiot doing something silly, its a little unfair having to repair your own bike.

also when I said you're more likely to crash by your own accord rather than someone else, I was purely referring to track riding not road riding. I meant you are more likely to crash due you pushing/making a mistake rather than someone taking you out.

Which would just lead to everyone needing insurance to cover their potential legal costs (so another expense). And the insurers would then likely just say that the chances of losing were too great even if you were totally not at fault and tell you to go 50 / 50.

All the best

To me it kinda looked like he pulled an accidental wheelie, while leaning a little. Grabbed the front brake before it landed - and well, it was over from there.

and I'm with Itchy. Although I think he should have tried to over shoot and run off by himself, not try to stop. Isn't what he did essentially what causes a large majority of biker deaths? Panicing at corners?

Indeed - but the insurance (if available) would no doubt be prohibitive and therefore stop people doing trackdays. There is no way I'd keep doing trackdays if I had to cough up an additional what £250?? (god know what it'd actually be, but its not gonna be cheap) per trackday to get 3rd party insurance (if people are suing, its gonna be bike and injury, so could get into the millions and therefore need insurance) ... and I wouldn't be the only one to bow down at £400+/day all in .... trackdays would be underbooked ... it'd become unprofitable for TD organisers ... they would close down ... game over .... all coz some whiny feckwit ...

DynaMight - I know exactly what you meant, but don't you see the impact of that sh1te would be the death of trackdays! Thumbs Down

Maybe when I was a rookie I would grab the brakes , but over time you learn not to do this and to react differently (pain is an excellent teacher) Last time I locked up the front was in Spain when I was going way too hot for a corner, I felt the front lose traction , immediately let go and it got grip again.

Well the Nurburg ring handles this nicely , you crash you pay a HUGE amount of money to the track management company to fix the armco barrier and to be lifted off the track.

Probably slows people down a fair bit.

The Nurburgring (or nordschliefe) is a public road, you need insurance to legally drive on it. The payment for the armco is along the same lines as you would have to pay for damage to armco on any road.

They do charge a fee for road closure costs, but again your insurance should cover it.

The nordschleife is not a track.

I know that but its a a sort of virtual track , and EVERY single bike insurance policy I have bought as well as car insurance policies.... which appears to be alot these days specificaly mentions the Nurburgring as excluded from cover....

As a public road I don't think there is any legal way for them to exclude 3rd party cover on the Nurburgring.

The ring was excluded from my last policy but not the new one I've just taken out.

Some companies use the term one way toll road to exclude it without naming it.

As for binning your pride and joy on track that's the reason I bought a track bike.

Yeah but that NR250 is also probably far too valuable to take down to the ring and have a go.
