Quick poll.

How many who did their 33bhp license, and got a bigger bike, declared the restrictors on their insurance?

Just tested it..

£1451 Undeclared
£1451 Declared

But if you take the cheapest quotes I got:

£967 Undeclared
£1451 Declared.

Just tried it out, mine is exactly the same price declared or not, so I will click yes I declared them, even though it's 3 months away!

Technically they did- any modifications from factory? Restrictors Thumbs Up

Think about it.....

Its the cost of replacement and other costs in a accident that set the quote.
So restrictors have no impact on that.... The bike still costs the same to replace, and can cause the same amount of 3rd party damage...
In fact they should increase the price, as it showing a less experianced rider... But they should know that by the age/time held etc.

There are no modifications though, because it's not restricted Shifty

I got an online quote without declaring the restrictors then rang to confirm and pay - just mentioned the restrictors to the bloke on the phone, "yeah that's fine" - made no difference.

Yeah but in theory it should mean you have less potential for acceleration and top speed, I know that in an accident the difference this will make is negligible, but surely that's what affects the price, rather than how much it will cost to replace the restrictor kit? And as you said I'm sure they've overcharged you on the less experienced rider bit already by Age: and License held for:

Reason I asked, was exactly that. Got a quote with Bennetts I was happy with. Then went back, added the restrictor, and it added almost £500 on to my policy, even with 3 years NCB? Shocked Surprised

Yeh I'm looking at quotes now and declaring restrictors always makes it more expensive.

But should you declare restrictors if they aren't there - bit of a catch 22. If you do declare them and they aren't there, then insurance isn't technically valid. If you don't declare them and they aren't there, then you couldn't say to the insurance company (in the event of a claim) "it wasn't restricted". You get screwed both ways really.

It's not just that, it's also patterns that bump up insurance prices. "Do people who have X have more claims?", I'm thinking the answer would be yes, so I would expect to see a higher premium for restrictor.

I didn't declare last year, thought they should know from my age anyway since i had just passed my test at 18, that was with bennetts aswell so they should know.

This year i didn't declare but the guy on the phone just said to me my insurance is only valid if i fit a restrictor in the legal mumbo jumbo spiel he did so it didnt change the price at all, they just expected it. Thats with bikesure who so far have been an efficient company!

My insurance documents have just come through from Bennetts and it says I'm still on a provisional Laughing I thought their system would at least flag it up that if you are on a provisional licence, you can't ride a 250cc.
