Ok I'm away from home a the moment and just got an e-mail from the wife saying she responded to an e-mail from Pay-Pal requesting her to update her bank details and NI number! Which she did Doh!
So after she sent the e-mail she didnt think it was right so called pay-pal to ask and thay said thay have not sent out anything.

She has so far canceled her card and spoke to the bank and thats as much as I know.
I've still to hear back from her to see if she gave any more info, ie, address, tel# etc.
the bank thing we can sort with closing that account and opening a new one but it's the NI number thing that I'm worried about. What the hell can she do about that?

Come on now BCF as quick as you can.

What Happens if I Lose My National Insurance Card?

You may apply to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) for a replacement card but you can only do this once. If you have lost your card and feel that your National Insurance number may be being used for purposes other than it was designed then you should contact them immediately and report your suspicions.

You know what that's for because some foreign banks require the NI no. for making an international bank transfer from your account to theirs to confirm personal details to your bank. Anything over say 10,000 is automatically red flagged and refered to the bank's Fraud Investigator and then onto the appropriate authorities, unless they may well deduct say 1,000 amounts from your account until there is no more money to withdraw.

Another case maybe to steal your identity to create a fake but legit NI no. for when a person enter's the country illegally on a fake passport now or in the near future so as to get a job right away or to work legally here or in another EU country.

Unless she gave out the CVV number than cancelling the card is a pointless exercise.
Changing accounts is as well in reality, as it will cause you more grief than anything else.
Get the bank to put a marker on the account that makes sure they contact you on any new DD's or standing orders.

I would also check out the credit ref agency's such as Equifax or Experian & Cifas
As they could use the info for new bank acc or credit cards.

I've told her to sign up to experien or similar company.

I got a reply from her. She has gave them everything! Name, Address, DOB, account number, telephone number, NI number.

I've told her to transfer all the money from her account into our joint one for just now and to check every transaction on her account on the online banking daily.

Stupid bint Evil or Very Mad

Luckly she doesnt have many transactions going on in her account as she doesnt work. I give her some keep money every month I'm away so she can get food, petrol (shoes and bloody handbags) etc. the only standing orders are into her savings account.

Bloody wimmin Rolling Eyes

Not to over use a well used BCF phrase but....

If ever a woman deserved a punch in the tits, the time is most definitely nigh.

Ok a bit of damage limitation to report.
I've just spoken to her and it was only the card details (big number and 3 digit number on the back) that she gave not the account or sort code, so canceling the card should be fine from a finacial point of view.
The only details that they have that are valid are her personal ones; name, dob, address, NI number. So they will probably go to some Romanian apple picker Rolling Eyes ........hopefully.

And yes she will be recieving a punch in the tits and a boot to the ovaries Wink

Whats the worst in theory that could happen with those details?

Pass this on to your missus:

My name is mister unbogo and I represent the legal affairs of Mr J F umwingo who was the owner of a diamond mine in Senegal. I am looking for a trustworthy individual to aid me in moving $3.6 million dollars US from a frozen bank account in the name of Mr Umwingo. He has no living relative and created no living will and so the money will be seized by the government unless it is removed.

If you send me your bank details, sort code, card number, pin number, security code, favourite colour, mothers maiden name, full name, address, postcode, bra size, the name of your first pet and a naked photo of yourself then I would be happy to give you ten percent of the money (£3600 (sic)) for your assistance.

Much appreciations in this descrete matter.

Mr M J Unbogo, executor of Mister Unwingo's estate.

Hi

I presume she has changed her paypal password? As likely the first thing she would have to enter on the phishing site would be the paypal email address and password.

All the best

Keith
