Ringing ear.

Ok so I have ringing in 1 ear only, after this happend today:-

Knelt on the floor, flogging a peice of plate, minding my own business, when someone behind me thinks it would be a good idea to, pick up a 4ton beam with the fork truck then drop it onto a pile of scrap about 2 foot away from me. Which as you may beable to quess was rather loud.

But why isn't the ringing in both ears?

Ears are very directional. You can't hear half as well behind you as you can in front due to your actual outer ears.

With good luck it will clear up on its own, but it could be permanent damage so get in the accident book at work asap.

Ermm yer my right one. It's just really anoying, with the constant ringing.

And ha accident book, that is the best one i've ever heard. Last week a lad got his fingers caught in a 50t punch. When he got back from the hospital he was told that if he made a log or told anyone he would be fired with a sexual abuse thing.

Can't really do anything, especially with been on my final written warning, which was for nothing but standing up for my rights to the boss over a family affair.

And how long do they last for? Ben on it since Aug 2008.

You need to get hold of the Health and Safety dept, you can do it anon, tell them that there are loads of unreported injuries and that everyone is being blackmailed/bullied into not reporting. Made up or incorrect disciplinary issue and the threat of the sack being the main ways of being bullied. H&S can go through absence records /payment details and hospital records against employee files to get a picture of what isn't being reported.

Ok here is the list of things that I can think of off the top of my head.

Me - Final written warning after standing up to my boss, no representitive or boss of the company in there, just got given the letter.
Me - Todays mishap
Last laborer - stood up to bos got 'Laid off'
Other laborer - Crushed whole hand got fired under bullying other work mates.
Me - Got bullied threatend to be killed (Mr Clown incident where my bike was damaged, thread somewhere) Got sent away for a month with the guy and made to share a room, because he is my workshop managers mate. (Got the shit kicked out of me everytime the door closed)
I've been hit around the head with a piece of 32mm round bar and knocked out (bosses friend nothing done)

Workshop health and saftey breaches:-

415volt socket held on the wall with MIG wire (Done by me just for a bit of saftey)
Chopped cables - Threads showing
Oxycetylene bottles leak perfusly - say anything pay docked
Roof leaks on to main bus bar box
I, I mean I a 2nd year ap, changes the blades on a quilettine.
New aps just get told there's a 9inch use it.
No method statement's used.
Improper health and hygene in canteen and toilets.
Aps allowed to use the forktruck, and blamed for accidents, one lad rammed the bosses car blamed it on me.
Pat tested equipment is actually just stuck on by the boss a day before inspector comes round.

The list is excessive, that is about a 10th of it seriously, and I will get pictures of the 415sockets tommorow.

Would you work here?

Iseriously wish it was that easy, my boss knows every other boss in this shytehole of a town, so if he finds out i'm screwed in the fact of been a tradesman.

Going to fill this post with picture of dodgy stuff so other people can see what I have to work with for 8hours day. 3days a week. I seriously love going to colloege, safe in the knowledge that what I touch is safe and is properly tested.

I am against the stupidity of some h&s these days but some of that is ridiculous.

Take photos
Make a log of everything you can remember
Prepare a kind of report and distribute it asap.

Most of those things are illegal and some downright dangerous.

The way you are treated is unacceptable as well. I would rather be on the dole than that.

Presumably a call to the right people will get some government h&s bods down there strait away without warning, so no time to hide things?

If so give me the name of the company and the address and i will gladly make the call to the correct people if you dont want to, a life is worth more than the 5 minutes it will take to make the call.

Something else to add to the list, today. Had to change a light bulb. Nothing to I know. But this was not just your average light bulb. It was one of the ealy big ones, and it was right atthe top of the workshop roof, some 15m up. No basket or anything. When I asked if I could put my climbing gear on, I was told to shut up and get on the FORKS!!! Refused and got a bollocking, told them I would report them and already have a report be compiled on them and all the faults with the company, they told me if I was going to be like that, I had just touched up the secetary.

God damn hate that fvcking place. But only 2years left to go.

You've got tinnitus like me. Mine is a mixture of ringing and white noise.

I think mines been caused by a wisdom tooth as I've got jaw ache on that side too.

Ha ha ha, last time a guy enquired and tried to set one up he was mysteriously laid off on one of the busiest times we've ever had.

But due to the total lack of care and attention in the place, all my stuff I use on site, like ropes, harnesses, strops and such like, are all tested out my own pocket. Last time I let them 'test them' I nearly died when a scaffold colapsed and only 1 of my 2 clamps were working, strangely enough the one I paid for to get tested was the one that saved me as the works one snapped, and nearly let me fall.

Are well only 2more years of this sh1t and i'm outta there.

Report it to the HSE, it is totally anonamous (im sure thats spelt wrong). They will turn up WITHOUT WARNING, your firm/bosses will not get any warning/letter/phone call etc.

See them be shut down on the spot Wink

Oh and even though you are in an apprenticeship, you aren't tied to that firm. Your college will/should help you find another job.
