Hey

I bid on something on ebay and contacted the seller to tell him to cancel my bid, as I bid on the wrong thing. ( I got my brother to bid on a bike - theres two of them and he picked the wrong one...)

Now he's replied with

Quote:
I'm sorry, but ebay will not allow me to cancel bids.
While I understand mistakes can be made and I don't wish to cause any bad will, the fact remains that all bids are legally binding, if you win the auction and do not pay, this costs ME money. This is blatantly unfair when the mistake is at your end.

Sooooo,

I sent him the direct link on how to cancel bids, I've heard nothing back.

The auction still has a few hours to go, and I think I will get outbid, however if I don't and he won't cancel my bid... anything I can do?

Ta

Email him, copying ebay in, explaining everything and requesting he cancel your bid, quoting the ebay regs.

Then at least there is some 'written' proof. Do it asap.

edit: He's a lying cunt, ebay DOES allow the seller to cancel bids, I've done it before and it takes 2 minutes.

Or make another account and outbid yourself? If it's easy enough to do?

Why people keep claiming that a bid is legally binding I don't know. Tell him you will not be paying if you are the highest bidder and that your high bid may put others off bidding.
worst that can happen is that you get a negative feedback, and he will get his fees back.

Can you not cancel the bid yourself?
I know you used to be able to do it, had to once when I stuck an extra zero in.

Prob removed that ability due to people forcing people up to their limits via second accounts

IF you want straighforward BCF vigilante justice, you could post up the item number and I'm sure a BCF-er with a second account/doesn't care about ratings could spam the auction with a million pound bid.

See if he manages to click the 'cancel bid' button THEN.

you can cancel a bid as long as theres more than 12 hours remaining on the auction.

https://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?RetractBidShow

also...
link to the auction so we can all boycott the lying cunt.
