Right i passed my car test in 2006 and my restricted bike in 2008. Which means I am restricted for another year to 33bhp. But if i wanted. I could by a bike well over 33bhp convert it to a trike and ride it perfectly legally as it will fall under cat B1. Riding a trike is more like riding a bike than a car. Why does it fall under cars rather than bikes.

Bit silly if you ask me.

Surely converting it to a trike would lose some of the madness of having a powerful bike, though?
I'm not refuting that the licensing laws here are a bit on the draconian side, but your example is a bit on the tenuous side.
Feel the power of my multi-sided argument.

I disagree, a trike is like a car not a bike, you can't filter, bank around bends(in fact need to go slower on most trike's).

Well, you can try to filter, but I don't think that the police or the insurers will look kindly on it...

I'm pretty sure that the B1 category does not entitle you to ride a trike that has been converted from a bike as I think they're still classed as bicycles.

I'm sure It's only classed as B1 if it meets a certain weight.

so your adding an extra wheel thing fails.

A B1 is basically classed as a car so you wouldn't have any power requirements.

This site says that if your trike is under 410kg then it is classed as a motorcycle so I'm pretty sure you'd still need to keep it under 33bhp.
