Confused does adrenaline cloud your judgement in that it makes you blame other drivers for your shortcomings?

You obviously, at least for a moment, felt you did not leave enough stopping distance, your fault. In addition with your better view of the road could possible have seen the situation arising via oncoming traffic.

You knew she was gonna pull out, you should have hung back.

No point in blaming her Karma

Im not gonna judge anyones oppinion but shes a crap driver, because things like that never happen to me when i drive a car and im fairly new to that, i always plan ahead and she probably was doing her makeup at the time...

Its not like its written on her number plate 'watch out, i might do something stupid'

She commenced an overtake, the situation changed and she deemed the overtake to be dubiuos (ie an oncoming car came into her view). She did the sensible thing and braked and dropped in behind the cyclist ( quicker than trying to accelerate past and a hell of a lot safer for the cyclist to boot).

You were too close behind. You braked too hard. You locked your back wheel. In your own words you panicked.

Seems pretty clear to me who is in the wrong, and trying to drag stereotypes into it won't strengthen your case.

And that is without me even going into the stereotype of noob drivers who think they know it all Wink

To quote from Star Wars: Who is the more foolish? The fool or the fool who follows him?

The point of this thread is that yes she does not have "I might do something stupid" written on her number plate. She shouldn't need it. You should assume that EVERYONE on the road is stupid. Case in point, you made a bad judgement by following her too closely therefore everyone on the road is equally capable of making such bad judgements. You need to take into account for that in your daily riding.

You need to assume that every other road user is a total moron otherwise you could be unstuck. Clearly a 'reasonable distance between you and the car in front' is not reasonable enough eh?

Don't tailgate, and make sure you can stop if the vehicle in front does - even suddenly and unexpectedly.

You're fairly arrogant about the whole thing for someone who passed his test not long ago and put himself in a dangerous position. It appears in this case that YOUR observation skills and YOUR planning let you down. This woman decided that the overtake was dangerous to complete and backed off, you nearly ran into her and she's a 'crap driver'. You seem like the stereotype of 'the driver is always wrong, bikers are always right'.

You made a mistake and it could have cost you, swallow your pride and learn from it. Everyone does stupid things but to blame someone else for your own shortcomings means you will learn nothing. Im not having a go but you need to have a think about what just happened and how YOU could have prevented it.

How would you react if you went for an overtake and did the same thing, a car ends up stuffing you up the arse. Is it your fault or the person behind with poor observations and travelling too close? Do you get up and say 'sorry my fault I am a crap rider?'.

Two things: If you run into the back of someone thats your fault. Period. Secondly, even if you were 100% in the right and it was entirely her fault, if you could have done anything to avoid a collision then you should have. If you rely on people driving like they should then you wont last long.

Why there is no F1 women drivers? Why there is no MotoGP women riders?

I think that if you want to be good at something you must have a passion for it, otherwise if you just using a car/bike as transport to go from A to B you'll never be good at it.

There is higher average of men who are very good with bike/car so men win.

Im just being sexit right now against most women drivers, sue me

Why are you not driving in F1 or riding in moto gp?

Why did you nearly have an accident of your own making?

There are plenty of excellent women riders/drivers, there are also plenty of young males just waiting to become statistics.

You nearly hit her, you didn't leave enough of a gap between yourself and the vehicle in front.

Its not the car drivers fault if there is oncoming traffic, she was prepared so should you have been.

Hang on....

Do you see a pattern emerging??????

Don't blame other drivers for your cock ups, just learn from it .

Time for that 1 litre bike, Yarri? With observation, planning & bike control skills like that you wont last long, mate.

Seems to me you just shat a brick when the rear started sliding (in a straight line Confused ) and the adrenaline is still running from that as you know you messed up and realised just how easy it is to do something stupid on a bike.

No point blaming anyone else or being a sexist twat Thumbs Down

And just for funsies:

"I think that if you want to be good at something you must have a passion for it, otherwise if you just using a car/bike as transport to go from A to B you'll never be good at it."

Didn't you say you only use your GSXR for 10-15 minutes journeys to the shops and your mates? Thumbs Up

lol forgot this was the guy with a whole 5 months experience on a 600 gixer Laughing

Must be a true riding God what with his 15 mile ride outs that leave him tired, his trips to the shops, his incessant desire to post pics of his (fugly) unique blue & white gixer and his "BMW Driver"attitude on the roads Very Happy

I think he may have switched a couple of positions in this story, it would make more sence that way.

The woman was overtaking a motorcyclist, she braked as a car came into view, the motorcyclist shat a brick. A following cyclist who was about to overtake the motorcyclist himself, stopped his Raleigh Burner, adjusted his newspaper delivery bag and shouted over "get off the roads before you kill yourself" Laughing

I have to agree with the general consensus that it was entirely your fault for following so closely and misjudging when to make your move. Your on a fast bike there is absolutely no need to ride close enough to have to lock up, you can ride further back and breeze past at will.

The only way anyones riding improves is admitting to yourself that you arent a riding god and that you have to continually work at your skills.

I have had my share of close calls and in every instance i have been partially if not wholey responsible, i am after all in control of the bike.

Finally i have seen far more shoddy driving from men than from women.

I think everyone before me has pretty much covered it, however you appear to be struggling to comprehend it, perhaps this may put it into simpler terms for you:

The way I look at it, just because you crash and it was someone elses fault does not make it ok.

I made a thread on another bike forum where I was angry at myself for making a bad judgement to change lanes on a dual carriageway before a side street with a car waiting at it.

The car decided to pull out regardless of me being there and I almost hit it full on at 70mph.

Yes, the car should have given way to me, but as a motorcyclist my safety is my responsibility, and the way I see it is everyone makes mistakes and we need to watch for them and avoid them.

I am not going to wake up in hospital (If I do wake up at all) missing an arm or a leg and think to myself "It's all OK because it wasn't my fault".

I can think of times where I have made a mistake on the bike and a car driver allowing for my mistakes has stopped me getting fucked up and I'm pretty sure it's happened to most of us at some point in the car or on the bike. I think it's only fair not to judge other people so harshly if they do something wrong.

The whole women bad driver stereotype doesn't really stick. There are loads of women drivers that have great driving skills etc.

The only time I really notice bad driving from women is the school run mums. But then maybe I only notice them because there's a primary school on my commute and the majority of people dropping their kids off are women. There's equally bad driving throughout the commute done by men. I guess it's the whole late for work thing.

Anyway, keep safe and try and give yourself more of a safety bubble by watching more for other peoples mistakes and judging them for it. It's all too easy to be angry at something that happened but you avoided 5 minutes ago and letting your emotions get the better of you just ends up getting you killed further up the road.

The trouble with accidents or nearly having them is that better obs and planning may have avoided that situation altogether.

Instead of kicking off about cagers, women drivers or whatever ask yourself what you did wrong because that's what will keep you alive next time.

You should have seen that coming tbh. You would have seen all this from the proper road position. You should have dropped back and stayed near the white lines whaich would have allowed you to see down the road and given her room to move back in lane. Karma

Talking of crap women drivers, has anyone seen the Top Gear episode where a 'crap' woman driver did the Nurburgring in a Ford Transit, overtaking a few dawdling bikes along the way?

Well, i can't say it was a close one or whatever as i knew that i could stop intime, only were doing around 35 in 40 with reasonable distance between me and car infront.
