Hello to everyone!

Well, I'm Carlos from Spain, I'm an english student (english teacher in 3 years...) and I want to work in Great Britain this summer.

Some people in a spanish forum has helped me sending me some websites where I can find jod offers(hotels, bars...). But being honest, I don't think they'll choose me, I'm just an student who doesn't know the language very well and they have lots of english people there. Laughing

So, do you know some company to help me to find job??

Pd: A friend told me spaniards are in England like ecuadorians in Spain...is this true?

Thank you very much Thumbs Up

Don't mean to be rude but there aren't enough jobs for us Brits let alone people from other countries.

Being Spanish you have the right to live and work in any country in the European Union, so you could in theory just pitch up and ask for a job. You can't be refused it just because you're Spanish, although you could be refused it if your spoken English isn't good enough. Some jobs, mainly government ones, are only for British citizens.

I don't know of any companies that help to place Spaniards in jobs over here, but generally the waiting and bar staff in Spanish or Mexican restaurants over in London are Spanish, sometimes pretending to be Mexican.

However, as bluntly put above, jobs are scarce over here at the moment, so getting and keeping a job over here would be challenging.

I am sure you will find bar work etc no problem, regardless of what some on here have said many of the minimum wage jobs in this country are ignored by UK citizens.

And anyway, with the number of Brits living/working in Spain its a pretty short sighted person who wouldnt make you feel welcome Thumbs Up

If you put the effort in and be realistic with what you're looking for then you'll find a job. We are short of jobs over here at the moment but we also have alot of people that expect everything to be handed to them on a silver platter so you'll stand out from them at least.

Thumbs Up

As some have suggested, i think you will probably fare best in the bar/restaurant industries.
Tapas style restaurants are becoming quite 'fashionable' over here, i guess you'd probably have a good chance there. For example, this chain boasts 70 locations:
La Tasca

(can't say i've ever been to one, so am unable to comment about them, it was just a random web search for Tapas restaurants)

Unfortunately, Britain is cursed by a particularly large proportion of xenophobic idiots (true to form, some have raised their heads in this thread already), so don't expect too warm a reception - in fact, if you turn up expecting to be called a 'stinking deigo/wop/spick' you probably won't be disappointed.

However, not all of us are knuckle-dragging Neanderthals, so good luck to you, hope it all works out ok.

Thumbs Up

Thank you very much to all. Some comments makes you feel...bad, but i've known lot of english people living/working here and no one of them have had any problem. Seeing nice people helping you is really nice.

I've just resgitered in meetup and I'm making a new CV in english to send it to La Tasca (WOW! a tapas bar in Britain! Shocked ).

I have some problems with the certificates Laughing but it's not big problem!

Thank you very much again, I'll told you when i'll be there to have a ride! Mr. Green

Yet we tend to go abroad for tapas when we don't want to raise a third child anymore.

Obvious idiot is...well obvious.

Hope you find some work over here, I shouldn't worry about your English it is already better than 75% of the British population.

I don't see many Spanish immigrants about, most people from the EU are Polish or Portuguese, would make a pleasant change! Even though the employment sector is in a dire state I fully understand your decision to move, last I heard they reckon Spanish unemployment could hit 25%!

Thank you Wink I don't know what is he saying...

Things here are very bad although we are recovering. We had too much dependency of the construction companies and now the constructions are all stopped and all their workers (most of them people without uneducated) are unemployment.

(I don't know if I've used the correct words)

I have my CV done!

Lakonur, I'm sure you'll be fine over here. Come across, study and find a job.

You'll be surprised there are still lots out there. Especially if you want to work in the hospitality industry.

Just be positive and you'll be ok. Plus your English doesn't need to be great, alot of poles get along fine with basic English and do jobs like has been said above alot of British people won't do for some reason! Were bloody picky bastards.

Just remember to bring lots of decent cheap Rioja or such like with you to make you feel at home, if you buy it over here its like £5 a bottle! Wink

P.s. Don't use the upside down ? on questions, we don't use that in English. Smile

Seriously, provided you can deal with random wankers telling you that they hate anyone that's not British, you'll do fine.
The last job I had in a bar, I was working in the kitchen with 3 Polish people: they were much harder workers than most of the British people in the bar. Ironically enough, two of them were so overqualified it wasn't even funny: they both had two degrees, and one of them had also trained to be a chartered accountant.
Work hard, ignore the idiots. You'll do fine, mate Smile

Like what?

I went to the passport control/ ID center place in London last year, was suprised that I didn't spot a single english person working there! the security guards were from africa or something and so were half the checkout staff, lots from India etc too. Don't think anyone was actually English.

I got nothing against foreign immigrants but just seems weird that a british government seems to be made up mostly of foreign workers!

You're getting English confused with British, someone can come from Africa or India or wherever and gain citizenship and hold a British passport in next to no time.

Something that is very common, especially when it comes to sports, ie Murray wins at tennis, British. Murray bombs out in first round, Scottish Rolling Eyes
