Riding to Dobles today, pick up some pads of the hornet, so going through twon theres a set of lights they went red so i ride up the outside to the front (like i always do). There was this BM witht tinted windows at the front, I pull along side/ infornt so i can get away from the lights and not hold him up. so i set off and look in my mirror and this BM is like a foot from my bike and his bumper was in line with my foot. I look accelerate and call him a wanker. carry on and his wing mirror was next to my bars, hes pulled along side on the inside and started to push me towards the other side of the road!!!

I looked infront there was nothing there so I swang at his mirror, took it clean off the car and Gunned it away. He could not keep up.

WHAT A WANKER. Now he has to buy a new mirror for his arrogant and stupid behaviour. TWAT!

What do you guys do in this situation? Do you go aggressive and take off a mirror. Or keep calm and slow down and let him go?

Never had anyone go that far to be honest.

I tend to wind those kind of people up a wee bit if it's safe to do so but I don't get angry as such so I probably wouldn't go swiping wing mirrors off but you never know.

Why did you not just "gunn it away" as soon as you saw him alongside?

To be fair you've let yourself down a bit there if you have carried out the wing mirror attack, why drop to such a level. To push you into the other lane he has to touch you, which he isnt going to do as he may hurt his BMW. If he touches you then you have free reign to do whatever physical damage you can do. You could always have gotten into the middle of the lane and went as slow as you like, without giving him the chance to get alongside you.

He's just an everyday wanker mate and not the sort of thing you should let upset you, don't let a deficiency on his part merit a loss on yours Wink

It was a single lane road, ie one lane going each way. He didnt touch me but caused me to take avoiding actions as he was driving towards me and essentialy side swiping me. Maybe i should have been more collected like i usally am, but he caught me in a bad time.
What i did in heindsight was wrong but he sould have not been such a cock.

I may have been at faught, probally am. but i dont care.

at the end of the day, we both were accelerating, he was irratated as i got infront of him at the lights but thats what bike can do. I acclerated away quickly and he was being a twat.

Not true as instinct will tell you to move away from the car that is coming towards you, so he never actually has to touch you.

Yesterday I had three separate Merc incidents.

First one (oncoming) did last minute right turn off main road inches in front of me causing emergency breaking and swerve.

Next one stuck 4 feet of bonnet into road from driveway causing emergency breaking and swerve almost into oncoming traffic.

Third one decided to overtake line of slow moving traffic heading straight towards me until she was a few feet in front of me then stopped - and had to wait until same queue of cars had cleared so she could get back to her side (they wouldn't let her in).

Were these all smidsy events?
- hardly, I was in a landrover with large trailer on the back full of cattle, headlights on too.
Some drivers are so dozy you could slap them.

(I don't know if you're trying to be funny or not?)

The guy was on his inside (nearside).. Is that the usual way to overtake?

The BMW guy was wrong to harass him in the first place, if he was annoyed and felt he was being held up he should have overtaken giving enough space, and on the correct side.. not trying to push him onto the other side of the road.

happened to me before when i had my 125 with a taxi driver, only he cut across 2 lanes to get to me. so i avoided it, caught up at the traffic lights and got his mirror off as i filtered past.

you did the right thing Thumbs Up

I hear what you say, but I think you have got me wrong. If you havent got any road prescence or dont position yourself correctly then yes I agree you could be put in the position where you moved as you thought it was you're only option. What I was getting at is the only person that can determine your road position is yourself in such a situation. If the bloke is directly behind you he cant change your position, the only way he can do it is by touching you, which he isnt going to do.

In the same situation I would have overtaken and been in the centre of the lane, if it had been open road and not a built up area I would have been a mile ahead before his piece of shit had even hit 60. If he plays the arsehole when you are in the centre theres nothing he can do but fill your mirror or touch you. My main point being, if you hover towards the outside of the lane and give the piece of shit the room then he will take the piss as long as he can. Personal opinion is don't give him the option Thumbs Up

my road position was normal how i ride. i was just the the right of the center of my lane. I was doing a reasonalble amount of pase and the road was a getting larger, i was riding not spsupecting him to be so close, the check mirror then he's there! he was coming towards me, ie straying left so i moved left aswell, he sped up a little more, so i hit it and went. i was angry and lashed out.
he was putting me in danger. i didnt know what to do. never been put in that situation. and i reacted. hopefully he dont do it again.

Drivers do this all the time, that's why now if I am joining the front of a que I have to be aggressive stick my leg out, use cycle bays, cross the edge line ect.. I'd rather not but you cant tell whos going to be a prick old women in rovers or the stereotypical BMW drivers.

The way i have understood the incident you dident rag your hornet away from the lights enough, gave him the option to make a stupid move.

But then if he has gone for you and bullied you out the way how you describe then i might have done the same... depends on the circumstances, and only you and he know the truth.

My normal position is about a foot from the white line, but if someone was up my arse for whatever reason I would cut the lane in half. Bear in mind though that on a bike most of us can hit 60 at half throttle in half the time it takes your average car to hit 30 so I doubt if I hared it from the line I would have even noticed his ire.

You got caught in a bad position by a complete knobhead and unless you queue jumped and then held him up you werent in the wrong. All Im saying is if you dont want to thrash it away and be safe then dont give him the option to get up the inside and hold your road position. Remember you are in charge of where you want to be, not little dick in his car.

Should have just turned your indicator on and gradually slow down to force him to overtake you instead. He was trying to pressure you to go faster or let him bye, as it seems these BMW drivers think they can do that these days, as they think they own the road.

Sometimes I've been tempted to take their mirror off except I have kicked the side of a car that was almost on me as they were oblivious to my presence (women drivers) coming into my lane, but then reality sets in they maybe using this road frequently too. So, they may take revenge on you the following day!

Watch out for that driver he maybe looking for you...!

if you filter to the front you have to be ready for the front car(it was stopped already you dont know if he wants to play )to head away from the lights as fast as he likes regardless of what you want to do.
you have options though.
easy option is to nail it away from the lights and be long gone before the car gets rolling.
or you can lazily dribble away from the lights making what could be an already mental driver even more wound up.if he has got to the point where his mirror is at a point you could hit it,then you are being a cunt and you deserve a slap.
the requirement of a filtering motorcycle is that it makes progress.
if you are getting away from lights and getting to 50mph with cars still along side you then you really need help or you need to drop in behind them.
there are people out there who for the (imaginary)mirror smash you claim that will kill you and go happily on thier way.
go fast in front or drop in behind dont let yourself be the dead idiot along side a psychopathic idiot.

One thing I've always wondered is what is the best way to hit a mirror off of a car? Do you hit it straight on? From above? From Below? Not that I ever want too, I'm not that kind of person, but I've always thought that it must take a fair bit of force to smash one off?

I did get off the light to about 50 witch is fast through the middle of a high street so I eased off to maintain speed. Then a very short while later, a bend and a set of green lights the bm's up the inside of me. That is why I hit it.

And as to hitting I decided to go for the forward swipe with the fist, glass 1st. Seemed to crack back and dangle by the wires. My dad favors the boot up and ride past buy that means planning. Thumbs Up

I got the initial impression that the incident happened in the first few metres after the lights i.e. you were trying to move in to the lane in front but he wasn't having any of it.

However, if this was a fair distance down the road and he's acting a twat then yeah, fair game to ya. Swipe away, mate Wink
