I had my tongue pierced a number of years ago during a rebellious streak, as it was the only piercing I could get away with in my area of employment - visual piercings were frowned upon and no-one got to see my tongue!
It varies from person to person, but I wasn't able to eat for a week and had to survive on soup, but I've heard that some people are unaffected! The actual piercing was fine, but the pain kicked in as the anaesthetic wore off later in the evening and it was a dull constant ache similar to tooth ache. Not enough to make a fuss but very wearing and 24/7
A word of warning, it's supposedly a dangerous piercing so make sure you use a very reputable establishment. The girl that did mine was excellent and had me return regularly to have it checked and the bar size reduced (at no extra cost) - they use a very long one to start with to allow for swelling and then reduce it to normal size as your tongue recovers. I was told that if the bar is too short the tongue still swells but towards the back and can restrict the throat and cause problems - not sure if that's correct or not?
Oh and another thing! I replaced the metal ball thingys with plastic ones to make sure I didn't damage my teeth. In fact the only people who worried about the piercing were my dentist and hygienist but they agreed the plastic balls were a good way to minimise the possibility of damaging the teeth - Suitor_Stu will no doubt be able to give a professional view on this

My bar's been out for ages and I can still put it back in no trouble. Think it's if you take it out too early it heals, much like other piercings I guess. I have a permanent hole in my tongue now!! ____________________ 'The core of a man's spirit comes from new experiences'

I don't remember being given a choice on the local anaesthetic injection - tongue was clamped which was pretty uncomfortable and the injection was done, then piercing - all over. It took about 5 hours until I started to feel the pain as the injection wore off
Maybe she took one look at me and thought complete wimp and didn't bother asking ____________________ 'The core of a man's spirit comes from new experiences'

I have mine done too, i didn't have an anasthetic either didn't actually know you could!
Prolly same as everyone else, actual piercing doesnt hurt just the healing process does a bit, nothing a few painkillers cant handle, mashed up food for a week, talked with a lisp until i got used to the bar
Don't know why i still have mine in tbh, might be me thinking 'i went throught pain and money for this im not taking it out!'
but its entirely up to you if you want it pierced or not ____________________ Sym Fiddle: SOLD

Was considering getting this done but tis hard to justify 3 weeks plus off work just for it to heal.
Who knows , maybe later ....but it's one up on a piercing
