My new bike & security measures

Here's my new bike

Gixxer 750 K2 in excellent condition , picked her up last week and just got a chance to get her out over the weekend .
I love it , it's ridiculously quick compared to the CBR but it handles completley different - also the Akraprovic exhaust makes it sound like hell on earth

Since the CBR was stolen i've been a bit "paranoid" about the security on my bikes and since the gixxer hasn't got an alarm i've been busy in the garage .
I first bought an oxford brute force anchor but after seeing it mounted it didn't fill me with confidence .
So it was time for some home DIY and this creation was born ....

It's a 1/2" thick metal floor plate anchored to the ground , attached to that (welded ) is 2 half girders with a 4" thick scaffold pole inserted between and bolted down . Also i've chewed the heads up on the bolts using an angle grinder so they CAN'T be removed - it's solid as a rock and alot more of a confidence boost .

I've also rigged a trip alarm to the garage door (150db) and have a grenade disc lock on the front wheels of both bikes .

Motrax something or another , non descript large chain that i've had for a while and an almax one , but it's not one of the realllly thick ones

None of them look like Almax chains to me, someone could easy bolt crop all three of those chains in 5 mins.


Almax Immobiliser Series chains are so thick its impossible to get bolt cropper jaws around a link enough for them to bite.

well the sleeve says almax - it's about 8 years old or so and the chains do look a lot thicker in real life

Nice work. I hate that measures like this have to be taken when you see similar bikes left out overnight in other countries, with not so much as the steering lock on. It would be great to be able to park the bike up in the garage and know that simply locking the garage door would be enough. I have that much security it becomes a sheer ball ache sometimes

Those chains look piss poor to me TBH. They look like random "heavy duty" chains that you buy from B&Q.

they'll probably crop them within a few seconds.

or they can take a portable grinder to those 2 x m10 bolts holding the checker plate to the floor, or to the m8 bolt that holds the shaft to the 2 girders (therefore freeing the chains)

Or a sledgehammer to the end of the horizontal rod to break off one of the m8 bolt.

And that oxford U shaped lock is really not worth using at all, all the outer shell is plastic and really really easy to snap.

had a bike stolen out of a garage in the past so ever since then security has become a neccesity for me to get a good nights kip! Theres no way I would leave my bike outside on the drive with just steering lock on, id flinch at even the most remote noise all night! Even living in a postcode with very low crime stats I wouldnt. I know of bikes stolen from brand new housing estates in 'well to do' areas by builders working on site and/or their 'associates'. Theft sucks

That sort of security should stop the opportunist thief. If anyone really really wants a bike they'll have it regardless.

At least like this you're making yourself a difficult target.

I realise it isn't a total solution package , but as said above if they want it - they'll have it ! .

Also taking a grinder will make a lot of noise - as will the alarm on the door

you can have all those chains and locks, but your main weakness in that setup is still that m8/10 bolt you have going through the bar, they could just crop that off and free all the chains, or use a spanner on it if you haven't mulletered the head off it.

The heads chewed up on it and i tried to get some cutters on that i had and they wouldn't go round as there isn't the clearance .

To be honest it's just a setup until i can get the floor dug up and get a Y anchor concreted in .

Yeah i looked at one of those however it's a council garage - hence why my security is on the inside , if they find out i've drilled the floor out they'll hand me a nice bill
