Done a search on here, but can't find anything where there's advice for people being pulled over for speeding (as opposed to being caught with a handheld cam or a gatso)

According to the ticket, I was doing 'in excess of 70mph on the motorway'. Does that mean they don't know how fast I was actually going?

It was 00:34, and they didn't seemed too bothered that I was using an obscene amount of speed. I've heard stories of people getting banged up for the speed I was doing!!

I ended up with a £60 fine and 3 points.

Any ideas on how I might get out of this??

Cheers!

3 words, you are ANNOYING. You say you did a stupid speed, yet you're not happy with 3 points and a fine. They could have taken your license away, unappreciative idiot.

I'm lucky because people get away with murder, and I get picked upon for speeding on an empty motorway at half midnight?

Edit: Can someone now answer the questions?!

Did you not see the line markings on the surface for a speed camera or warning signs?

It was by a pair of 'officers'

But you got caught.

You admit on this forum that you were speeding at well above
the legal limit. What advice did you think you would/could get?

What speed did you tell the police officer you were doing, or did
he not ask you?

They didn't ask me, I just kept my mouth shut. I wasn't about to admit!

Just makes me think they didn't know either.

EDIT: They didn't even ask me to take off my helmet

Funny how you rate my post off topic, when its the obvious truth.

You're the kind of guy who blames everyone else but himself am I right?

The truth is they could have taken my license or whatever, but I didn't ask for your views on what could have been, therefore it's off topic

This is a public forum mate, I'll give you my views whether you want them or not.

Don't know what kind of advice you want or are after. What do you think can be done about it?

Grow up.

Quite obvioulsy you need to learn to read then, as the advice I want is quite clearly visible in my first post.

You can give me your opinion if you'd like, but don't cry if I rate it something you don't like.

Don't stop? Shit, too late for that now. Razz

If you got a fixed penalty 3 points and £60 fine for "an obscene amount of speed" then it might be in your best interests to leave it at that.

You say you ended up with £60 fine and 3 points, have you accepted the fixed penalty then?

What happened for you to be pulled over?

Heh.

You missed my point in that this is a public forum.

My advice is to skip off to a solicitor who will tell you that you got lucky with the minimum 3 points and £60 fine.

Now suck it up and move on.

Ok, what speed were you really travelling at ? Maybe, because you were being so cooperative with them they decided to reduce your over the speed limit amount by giving you a break and book you at a much lower speed, ever thought of that and maybe that's why you didn't lose your licence ?

I would leave it at the fact that I will get 3 points and £60 fine, except it seemed as if they gave me the ticket knowing they had no proof, and were just relying on me to accept it.

As to what happend, I guess they thought I was going too fast lol

Were they behind you for 20 miles?
Were they waiting on one of those police waiting bits by the hard shoulder and you went past them and they followed?
Did you overtake them doing 140mph?

What happened as far as you know?

At the side of the road I assume you were given a verbal NIP? You say you ended up with £60 fine and 3 points, have you accepted the fixed penalty then?

I overtook them, then they over took me and stopped me.

It was a verbal NIP and I need to go to my local station to pay up and all that.

Take it like a good boy and think yourself lucky that at 12:30 they had better things to do than follow you for a couple of mile's to get your speed, then take your licence away.
You contest it, and it goes to court. They can simply say they were doing 70 and you came passed....
Their speedo is calibrated, yours is not.

Helpful bit...
You could try that web site that begins with a P and does this sort of thing all the time (to early and brain not in gear to remember), but think you may just get the same response....

Caught bang to rights, accepted it there and then (ie points & fine) then wants to squirm out of it?

If you didnt have the balls to fight it face to face at the roadside then tbh you got off lightly.

I know what you're saying, but challenging it is surely it's just a case of risk and reward:

Reward - getting off a £60 fine and 3 points.

Risk - They pull up the actual speed data and you get royally f*cked over and loose your license (plus much bigger fine than £60).

Sure, you don't know if they have that data, but it doesn't seem worth the risk to find out.

If you were really going way over the 70 I would just take it on the chin.

From the sounds of it the Copper was ok, and unfortunately for you just doing his job.

If you do decide to try to get out of it you will end up in court, and if the verdict does not go your way it will cost ya! A few years back I was pulled for speeding, but the Copper could not prove it so told me he was going to 'do' me for going over a double white line (which I was fairly sure I did not do). Now I know I was speeding but the Copper was a complete tosser and had an obvious hatred against people who ride bikes. I came to the forum asking for some advice and was given the whole "You were speeding deal with it!" advice. Luckily for me I did not listen went to court and was found not guilty.

To be fair when I initially came asking for advice, I was younger and a little more immature then I am now and may have not gone about asking for advice quite the right way. But I was also confronted by I lot of people who claimed I had no chance, and should just deal with the consequences of my actions. Fortunately for me I did not listen and still have a squeaky clean license.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=116846&highlight=advice

Your case sounds allot more straight forward then mine though, you were speeding, you got court, Police man gives you ticket.

Surly if that is the case 3 points and a fine is a great result?
